I wasn't able to dig it up, but someone a week or two ago posted a video of coach (Laviolette?) explaining the system element of moving the puck to the weak side in the offensive zone on the forecheck (and then typically to the point). I started looking for this from the Flames, and noticed often they did not send a guy to that spot to make this play possible. And what did Sportsnet just show us? A highlight pack of the Flames sending a secondary forechecker to the weak side! I think Darryl's "adjustments" to the system may be bigger than the Flames have been letting on.

There’s no reason that this team can’t retrieve the puck well. Including the smaller guys, who all have quick enough sticks.

Oh, I know. It’s confidence and will. And some intelligence to get on the right side of the puck and the man. Sven used to drive me crazy because he’d be in there but always on the wrong side to pin the stick.

Puck retrieval is all effort.

Well, so far so good. Playing the right way. Pucks up ice and go to work.

Also forgot to give props to Mangiapane. Every time he's on the ice something good happens.

I guess Brendan Morrison chose to stay in Calgary after retirement? Figured he'd live in Vancouver.

Corner to corner ( width) and back to the BL(depth) is very difficult to defend.

That was a refreshing period of hockey. Even if they don't make the playoffs at least it's not going to be a death March.

As I was watching them forcheck and make Montreal ice the pucks I was thinking, isn't this more fun than standing around and getting beat? Hard work can be fun..

Monahan gives the puck away twice and that’s the PP in the books.

It hasn't been effective yet but I like that the Flames are trying to move the puck up the ice quickly via stretch passes on the PP.
