It's crazy to think that he went 16-4 in the playoffs that year after the team was at .500 before he was hired.

Just a ridiculously substantial improvement in the teams record in both scenarios. Let's hope he can do it again.
Big part of that Kings turnaround was Jeff Carter though, are we getting a Jeff Carter?

This. In the NHL and the NFL it's my opinion that this is what separates good coaches from average or lousy coaches. When your system is so stringent that it doesn't allow for change other teams take away what you're trying to do and the team looks lost. I expect this to be the biggest difference for this team going forward.

Sutter represents the best chance at a cup for Gio and Backlund. Nothing would be sweeter than seeing these career Flames hoist the cup, and I hope the narrowness of their window is not lost on them.

Yes 100% this. It was incredibly frustrating watching when the opponent clearly had an effective game plan, or were making smart adjustments on the fly and the Flames seemed to have no answer.

Just more of the same whether working or not.

Carter played in only 16 games with the Kings in 2012. Prior to that Sutter had already led the Kings to a 13-9-8 record. Carter helped, but the improvement was already well underway.

[EDIT] And while the Flames may not have a player like Carter available to them this season, I don't think there is any chance that the roster is not significantly overhauled before the start of next season.

Do I expect them to play better? Yes. Do I expect to see a team that's harder to play? Yes. But Darryl can't score the goals for them and this team is seriously offensively challenged.
Sutter won all three of his cups with teams that were "offensively challenged"

Honestly feel like Sutter is exactly the right type of coach for this group. With a healthy marky and a hardnosed high effort game in front of him, its going to be tough to beat. His LA teams were always outshot and won on pure effort and good goaltending. Fully expect the Flames to immediately be a lot harder to play against.

I must say, I haven't been this positive about a coaching hire since Hartley. Finally, a proven coach. I feel like Treliving totally wasted the prime years of this group by continually hiring mediocre coaches.
