That team literally had one guy who scored 50 points that season.

Do you see Shean Donovan out producing Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm, or Backlund?

Like, we do probably beat Tampa if we just keep St-Louis. The margin was that small.

That is unfair and a lazy take.

I’m obsessed with this team. Why the f would I be on a fan board otherwise, just like yourself.

Yeah but Shean Donavan had more playoff success in that one year than all those guys combined! Lol

Well that's how it came across to me, apologies if I'm wrong.

You giving McDoodle credit just makes me angry. #### that guy I have zero respect. Dives and whines and looks to the refs constantly when things don't go his way. Most entitled player in the league. Don't care how good he is, hope he never wins anything. HNIC makes it worse when they lap it all up, remember when they said 97 is allowed to steamroll a goaltender because that's McDavid's ice? This is the kind of trash you'd expect to hear from a delusional, regional homer broadcast not a national one.

This team has more talent than the 2004 Flames, top to bottom.

It just does. It has $40M more worth of NHL players - it’s impossible for it to not have more talent.

That’s my point. This is just a collection of talent. They are a roster full of good individual musicians- Darryl is here to turn them into an orchestra.

this team on paper has way more skill than the 04 team

that's not to say the Flames don't need to add more skill to the top six. They lost 3-2 on the road...this game isn't the hill to die on

For how terrible the Flames have been apparently they have won more games than McDavid since he came in the league. Imagine if they had some decent players!

And sit players that don't feel like dedicating to the band. At least I hope.

I think you need to see McDavid, without being a flame fan. He's lebron James in his first stint in Cleveland.

He can do things I think maybe 5 players in the past 100 years of ice hockey could do. His only negative is he plays for a franchise that is so inept, they can't create an avg team around him, making them a a perennial cup contender.

I hate it but it is true. We all knew this was going to happen the moment that lottery was won.

Except hockey isn't basketball...how often does the leading scorer win the championship?

Shaun Donovan has 12 points in 49 career playoff games, but okay.

Never mind keeping St Louis, if Shaun Donovan doesn’t shred his knee late in that series I think we at least get to OT.

Yup. So when the oilers only really have 2 good players and beat the flames like they have this season, it does tell us something about our 23 man squad.

Tough to listen to some of these old timers on Overtime, I don't know how Pat does it.

Overall talent? Sure. But my point was that we don’t have that one superstar like Iggy who could put the team on his back, or a guy like Gelinas who could score in the clutch. When the coilers scored that third goal tonight we all knew the game was over. We simply don’t have anyone who can step up.

I hope you’re right and Darryl can turn it around but I’m not convinced he can get these guys to grow a pair of giant balls and play more consistently and start scoring some gd goals when they need to.

I think a few musicians are going to have to be swapped out before the band starts playing anything worth listening to.

Probably 3.

Sorry should have been more specific I guess. I meant team success. Which is all anyone cares about.

Almost never - and in fact, the only time in the salary cap era a team has even made the finals with a 50 goal scorer was 2007 - Dany Heatley for the Senators.

You think McDavid is top 5 out of all players from the last 100 years?

What does that have to do with perennial contenders? McDavid is barely on the ice for more goals for than against...he isn't Lebron James

Barely beating the Flames is nothing to write home about these days

If he's in a franchise managed better than the oilers, yes.

If McDavid came into the situation that Crosby did, back in 04 with the pens, I think he'd be on a similar trajectory.
