The answer might be not prove yes in time but the starting point is whether they are willing. Tonight was a solid yes. For the first time since chucky got hurt against Dallas.
For one night, the flames proved their biggest issue wrong. Conversely, the coilers proved every criticism right. I’m fine.

Not sure I agree but you you have a good point.
I would feel more comfortable if the flames could show more offensively.

The entire HNIC crew was straight up trash this game. Cassie especially is completely oblivious to the fact she is calling a game for Oilers AND Flames fans.

I get annoyed by it but I also think perhaps the regional broadcast has made us more sensitive to the national broadcast.
The flames will absolutely get their talking points if they deserve it. They haven’t much this season, hence, the national broadcasts will inevitably seem one-sided.

Highly doubt it. HNIC routinely blabbers on about 97 in games where the Oilers are not even playing.

They deserved it in the first half of the game and got no talking points or discussion time.
Regardless of whats happening we know exactly what the discussion will center around.

It's not going to be an overnight switch. Sutter coming in isn't about just an instant fix. It's a long term play.
What Sutter is going to do is get this team playing the right way on a nightly basis, 60 minutes a night. Sutter's systems also lead to possession/shots/scoring chance dominance while limiting possession/shots/chances against.
Sutter is a truuuuly elite coach and knows how to mold players minds to the way they need to be to have success.

Someone made an interesting comment about the league becoming a league of stars so those players are discussed ad nausem by the media. I guess that’s true for other sports as well.
Maybe the sensitivity has to do with the fact that we don’t have highlight reel stars. Some of our guys like JG and Tkachuk get their fair attention at times when due but nothing like the leaders on the other teams.

But he deserved it again tonight. In a league that is criticized for not pushing more about their superstars, they have to do it.
I watch that game winning goal tonight, and the cynic in me is looking for the missed assignment, the lazy backcheck, but it’s just greatness. Few players now or in any era pull that off.
There was a narrative going into tonight about this being the first time 97 has gone pointless. Tonight he answers the bell and deserves the spotlight. Kid is unreal. I wish he wasn’t an Oiler so I could watch and appreciate him more.

If looking for some positives, the 4th line actually looks good with Ryan and Ritchie. Creating some turnovers and actually getting scoring chances.

100% agree, but I think you need to split them up. We are so weak on RW that there is no real good solution.
Move Lindholm to RW with Monahan and Tkachuk, sure, but then you have JG with Backlund and maybe Mangiapane. Could work.
But that leaves Bennett as 3rd line C. Yea not too sure.

Wow, great perspective.
The knock on the Flames was answered to an extent. They showed long glimpses of what they're capable of. It is evident that the ability is in there to dictate and be defensively stifling, even though they let off their game gradually and fell into that mental trap. The Oilers just did exactly what they've done for years and nothing new - live and die by their ability to stack all their talent on one line and play it excessively, which has never panned out for them when the games have really mattered because you have to have more to your team than that to compete. They'll beat their chests, but in the end these are hollow victories given how deep their problems remain to be.
And no, Mike Smith didn't suddenly figure it out at 39 years old.

Cammi Granato is a scout for Seattle
Hockey is hockey and just because women are exceedingly unlikely to play in the NHL due to physical considerations, it is pretty disgusting to think that one of the legendary / distinguished women is unqualified to give insight in to the game

Are there other men who are equally, hell more qualified, sure.
As a father to a daughter, I need a Cassie Campbell doing her thing, good or bad.
I’m not a fan of Campbell, but the flames aren’t a good team. Broadcasters have to focus on the team that wins and, more importantly, the stars...

Ok one more comment. I agree with you on that, for sure. But there are lots of qualified women who could do what she does. She’s had that role for many years and game after game people complain. Not just me.
Anyway I should not have said anything in the first place.

The Flames have stars and I hear nothing about them.
I'd like to hear more about Lindholm who is awesome. But listening to the broadcast you wouldn't know that they're aware of this at all.
It's poor programming that takes the easy and lazy route of just remarking on the league's most prominent player and Cassie's gender doesn't negate the lack of ability they've shown to dive more deeply into the game than that or focus on less obvious things that are going on than what Connor McDavid is or isn't doing. You learn next to nothing about the subtleties of the game watching these broadcasts.
They're not being professionals or experts in any capacity with what they're bringing to the commentary currently.
Sorry but I'm calling a spade a spade here. It's been amateur hour.
