If it were any other team than the Oilers, I would be almost glad this he isn't behind the bench yet - a chance to see which players want to make a statement all on their own.
But it IS the Oilers. And it's Saturday night. And two weeks ago tonight they beat us 7-1. And these points are HUGE in the standings: we can be tied with them tomorrow night, or we can be 6 back after tonight.
It is the most important game of the year so far BY A MIL, and if Darryl could be there on the bench, glaring down at the boys, it would be the closest thing to an automatic win that we could hope for.
Hopefully the boys can accomplish that on their own.

I think Ryan could take a portion of those duties as well.

I think Bennett should play tonight, but like I mentioned in the PGT after the last win, both Leivo and Ritchie scored. I don't think a player should come out of the lineup after a scoring a goal (unless that player did awful work the rest of the way through and cost the team - which neither of them were guilty of).
Bennett will draw back in soon, and hopefully Sutter turns him into an important piece. I am not exactly surprised Kylington is out - that was a bad bounce, but it is arguable that he didn't put himself into a position to prevent it in the first place. I do, however, think that Kylington should get some rope and get some confidence in his game again to see if he can't settle down and become an important piece himself. Definitely has the skill to become one, but he isn't one yet.
Flames need to win this game. It is going to be a grind from here on out, and with the midway point of the season quickly approaching, they need wins, not just solid efforts. I was relegated to cheering for solid efforts and improvement for the rest of the season, but that ship has sailed under Sutter's watch now. Team needs to win and push themselves back into solid playoff territory, and it starts tonight. They will make their lives a heck of a lot easier in winning the next two games and giving themselves a bit of breathing room.
Will be interesting to see how Huska manages the bench. I am sure the Flames will come out flying tonight and put in a solid effort (as will Edmonton), but I still expect them to look a bit disjointed still, especially on the transition. I expect this game to have the most emotion out of all the games that we have seen thus far between these two teams just based on the events of the last week for each team. Huska is going to have his hands full tonight for sure.

May not? There is no "may". I believe it was Benjamin Franklin that infamously quoted "In this world, nothing can be said to be certain but death and taxes, and that the Oilers are no good"
The man was ahead of his time.

Yup. Just be patient, Bennett.
Your time is coming. Coach has a plan for you no question.

I understood it as him commenting on all of the teams that are not usually division rivals to the Flames and how it's a tougher battle this season.

Most amped I’ve been for this team in a while.

We haven't lost a game with Kylington in the lineup. He's not some firecracker that keeps losing us games.

There's nothing preventing Sutter from having discussions via phone or Zoom with individual or groups of players other than the reported team meeting; I wonder if he has done this.
I think there is a danger of the players thinking too much out there in anticipation of how they will need to be different when Sutter arrives. This is a team that I believe is already too much in their heads while playing. Just go out there, work hard and play your game.

Was gonna say so, but it’s a lot of minutes, unless they’re going to say “the C always shadows” which is another way to go. Except on the Monahan line, then it’s gotta be Leivo.

Is Markstrom actually able to play? A little confusing why you would have him in the lineup just to ride the pine.

I don't think it's a one-man job because of McDavid's lengthy shifts and significant ice-time.
I was thinking: A) Backlund, B) Ryan

I can’t see McDavid going pointless in four straight games. If we can limit him to 1 or 2 points tonight I like our odds.
Just don’t let him pot 5 again. Please.

Markstrom was likely feeling the effects of that injury in his last two outings which were rough ones. Was a different player before that.
Hopefully he's refreshed and ready.

Thanks, not sure how I saw the lineup tweet from Steinberg saying Nesterov is in but not the tweet right before it saying Markstrom is starting. That is good news.

There is just one thing wrong with saying ‘Edmonton is No Good.’
It requires you to use the words ‘Edmonton’ and ‘good’ in the same sentence. Blecch!

My thought is that he should be on one of those remote medical robots with a 32 inch monitor for the face. This model has to have robot arms that it can wave or put on its hips as it rolls up and down the bench.

I don’t know if they’ve had enough time to do this, anyway. You need to drill the other centres as well. They have to get off the ice. The lines have to work with that [yikes] blender.
