Since the Flames took the leap to spend the money to put Sutter on the books with two other coaches still on them, when attendance is allowed again at the dome I will attend and spend my money there to show my gratitude.

The difficulty of that decision from a business standpoint in covid times is not lost on us.

I hope to see more hits, more pressure.

You need to be big or fast, or both.

Happy Edmonton didn't hire him first, quite honest.

Regher was our 7th leading scorer!

Badger Bob had some great teams!

I have so much to say about this... I can't wait for the remaining pages to read through so apologies if posted already.

To start, as likely a scenario as any, what if Treliving wanted a different coach that Ward. Knew he wasn't the one, owners never approved that expenditure. Not that they would sabotage the season but maybe it was a point to prove to them that they needed a top end guy..? As they looked discombobulated all season, Tre was going to Edwards and saying see.... Thus Darryl comes in.

I strongly feel this has been in the works and hope Darryl has been quarantining allowing him to be on the bench Saturday. I recall the Sutter's had beating the Oilers ranked almost as high as winning the cup. More of that mentality.

Regarding Bennett, maybe this group learned their lesson with Savard. Chose the player this time and will give him a shot with an elite coach, one that should fit Sutter style hockey, if not for at least increasing his trade value. Can you imagine Sutter turning Bennett into that touted 4th overall pick we've been longing for... damn

on the opposite take, with Darryl advising for Anaheim, I wonder what "Kiprusoff" types he has identified to cherry pick. Or maybe a Rackell plug with this recent chatter about a top 6 RW that Tre is seeking.

Or what players he would like to bring in from LA, ones he can trust, plant as seeds to get the current roster to get on board. Brown? Kopitar? (unlikely) but I can see someone on his side to help get them all on board brought in.

I'm so stoked for this. Can't wait to see the results.

This is exactly what I wanted the Flames to do. I didn't even think Sutter was an option, so I was hoping for Gallant or Boudreau... Have the Flames ever made a decision that was this... right? I think that this team may be on their way to having an identity, which was one of, if not our biggest problem.

Well, we have had 6 years of NDP coaches that wanted everyone to feel good about themselves. Willing to give it a try.

One player I am hoping responds really well to Sutter is Monahan. Tkachuk feels like a Sutter player sominsuspect his season starts to move in the right direction as well.

I am hopeful that Lucic keeps up his solid play and maybe gets a lot meaner.

Worst team in cup finals history? I think you forget who lost in the next cup final. For shame.

I'll be interested to see what happens when Looch decides NOT to hit his pals in Coilerville. I just can't see Sutter standing for that.

In fact, I could see Sutter pulling the entire Heat team to the bench if he needed to make a point. That is the one quality about him I admire - he is totally unafraid to do something that bruises egos if he thinks it will make those egos better, stronger and tougher to play against.

Hahaha ...

More like if we had a UCP coach, Treliving would be coaching the team because the UCP are always the smartest people in any room they enter. They know everything and if anything goes wrong it is a result of the radical left.

The Oilers roster was better than the Flames 2004 roster. Look at that roster and those stats! hahaha Those are numbers for a team bounced in the 2nd round!

Oilers should have won it if that idiot Oiler didn't injure his own goalie. He deserves a statue in Calgary.

I love the hire, but that 2004 run was lightning in a bottle. He also took the first place team and lost in round one the next year. I’m more impressed with his Kings coaching, actually.

Badger Bob’s 86 finals team was deep but had not too many stars. Dan Quinn was the top points guy at a mere 72, and Loob scored 31 which, in those days were not huge numbers. They did trade for Mullen who was talented but still a north south guy. But overall it was a hardworking lunch bucket team: Tonelli, Risebrough, Peplinski, Otto, Wilson, Bozek, Macoun.

Now that he has a capable coach, Treliving needs to work on the roster. This is an incredibly weak division and a semi-finals berth is right there for the taking.

Give Darryl some talent to work with and this team can make some noise. Please no more depth additions on defense. This team badly needs some more talent up front.
