Your dads call last night summarized my feelings about this team to a T! i was just sitting there nodding along, i love his passion. Its the only form of passion in this entire organization outside of the fans.

I thought they were outplaying the Sens up until the Sens first goal. Then when Lucic scored I figured they were looking good until Lucic caused a goal against. There were planets of times they had lots of zone time, but no effort to go to the net, and those were when they could have changed the game.

Ottawa has given up plenty of leads this year.

All it was was standard player-speak and platitudes

He didn't call anyone out, or anything like that

Glad that you can still give them a benefit of the doubt

I’m just saying what he said. I’m glad he said it, but I’m not saying it’s gonna happen.

You have a cool dad. His rant last night was epic! The man could rally armies with that kind of passion.

And to be fair he might not be wrong about the computers. Social media is essentially a human hamster wheel that kills hours of your life and monitors you for a profit.

I thought the Lucic turnovers were more about bad luck and a bad assumption than poor plays.

Both were pucks chipped right to Calgary players.

The first one hits a skate of a Calgary player and turns over.
The second one goes right to two Calgary players (Backlund and Dube) who both assume the pucks coming out and don't provide any support at all on the turnover.

You don't blindly chip the puck into the center of the ice in your own zone...ever. Lucic has done it countless times and cost the team.

Sure you do. It's an effective breakout play in most cases because a defenseman or center will typically receive the pass and skate the puck out of trouble.

The issue isn't that you "never" make this sort of breakout. And it's not as blind as you're making it sound.

The issue is that the Flames "only" make this sort of breakout, and opponents have scouted it ad nauseum to the point where they're reading this play before it happens.

They're playing like robots out there and it's predictable.

Someone needs to tell a guy like Noah Hanifin to just skate every puck he has possession of out for a game, even if he's behind the net when he gets possession, even if it leads to a turnover. Just add variety to your breakout, so it's not just passes being picked off predictably. Then suddenly that lucic play doesn't happen with the same frequency when you need to make that breakout play.

The fact that the one guy on this team who would actually do exactly what I described was a healthy scratch last night is what frustrates me the most.

It was funny because very shortly after that goal, somebody on Ottawa made a through the legs backward chip pass in their own zone. Almost as if trolling

Yeah every team does it on break outs ... every game.

Lucic has made mistakes, they all do ... but those two turnovers are more on the receiving players than the guy chipping the puck to the middle.

The first one was a bad bounce off a skate ... but Backlund and Dube both blowing the zone with an assumption of possession was the issue on the second goal.

It is incredible how the mishandles bad bounces are all ending up in the net. I know that is a cliche but so many of these are goals and how many have been when CGY is having a response to just kill any good vibes? Like this is crazy.

At this stage, there is literally no value in speaking to players post game. None at all. They don’t provide insight, they lie, and they make themselves and the organization look foolish and a bit detached from reality.

I don’t expect them to say “we suck”. But they could say things more useful or insightful than “we have to be better”. Yes thanks vaguespeak. You have to put in more effort, we know, what we want to know and what the media is too afraid to ask because it’ll cost them their jobs, is why aren’t you doing it?

One thing to say. Another to do. Action needed. It’s been 5 years. You either want it or you don’t. This group doesn’t. Their actions have in fact been larger than their words. There is no point at all listening to them anymore.

I think you're going to be angry for a long time if you think the Calgary Flames are going to be the tip of the spear that ends what seems to be all sport's franchises use of cliches and saying nothing of consequence to the media.

In fairness, hockey players really are the worst of the big four for generic comments though.
