I couldn't believe it, we didn't even have a TV and had crappy Buick station wagons.

High speed Internet was the big one for me for years. I don’t think my dad finally upgraded until 2003 or 2004

I was jealous of kids who had Nintendos. Parents wouldn't buy me one because they were against video games. My uncle bought me a Game Boy when we visited HK though and I ended up playing that thing every day for hours so my parents were probably right... Mentioned by others as well, I always wanted a dog but parents wouldn't get one. I got one when I moved away for university.

A pw50, a pool and an acreage. They ended up involved in a pretty heinous crime , so I think I came out on top ultimately.

Growing up I never got name brand anything. It was all cheap noname for me. So I was always jealous of the kids who had Nike shoes.

The worst was my baseball gloves. I had a Venture glove that would bring me great shame every time I put it on.

For me it was Nintendo (NES) all the neighbours had one, we only had an Atari. Nobody was coming over to play that. I asked for Super Mario Brothers and a NES. I got a stupid Super Mario game for Atari. Lol, it was like the donkey Kong game where you climb ladders and have to avoid the barrels. Man was I pissed.

So close but so far. I also was jealous of my friends who had roller blades for playing street hockey. My parents bought me adjustable roller skates that fit over my shoes. Yup, not the same thing.

We didn’t have a lot so I understand looking back now. We even drank powdered milk as our everyday milk. So going over to a friends house who didn’t have clumpy milk was a treat. Oh man, those days. Cant help but laugh. Our kids now are so spoiled it’s sickening.

here's one I don't think I've seen mentioned: a pool table. I had a friend that had one and I always wanted to play when I would spend the night. For him it wasn't a bi deal as he could play anytime so he often wouldn't want to play which was a bummer.

Honorable mentions for me that have already popped up would be a swimming pool and a computer. I was born in 81 so as the 90s hit and computers became more mainstream, I had no one technical in my family that needed one and we weren't too well off so we didn't have one just for fun. I finally got a budget computer in like 1999 or 2000 as I was getting done with high school or early college. I definitely spent a lot of time at friends houses playing. Specifically Civ2.

This always surprised me.

I know nothing of the construction of baseball gloves but it seems to me that it would be harder and more expensive to make one of out what appears to a plastic that is supposed to resemble leather? And then have it assembled and stitched together by criminally disinterested children on the other side of the planet and then shipped here so our children could wear them with shame.

And yet...here we are. I had one too.

You could practically watch the thing gradually come apart in real-time every time you caught a ball.

I had a Variflex skateboard from Sport Check. It was not cool in the least.
I had that Vision Gator with a slightly different color scheme.

My first skateboard was a StreetSucker purchased from Woodwards. Skateboarding was HUGE at that time. Everybody for miles around had a skate, and two houses on our street had built pipes. We even had a ramp we would setup in the middle of the street. One kid down the street had the exact same skate as me. He said I copied him because he got his first. Yeah, like he got his on Friday and I got mine on Saturday and we saw each other on Sunday type thing.

After about a year we were both talking about getting new decks. Everybody was ditching the department store skates and going to the skate shop and getting a pro model. Well, on the same day we both wound up getting a new deck and all the top brand name parts. We both got Vision Gator. He was mad at me for copying him again even though it was pure coincidence. He had a new Tony Hawk a week later.

one of my buddies was rocking this beauty

that math coprocessor though...drool. he was able to get at least 20fps out of Flight Simulator 5.0, on the higher resolution and detail settings.

meanwhile I was chugging along with this

not even Intel Inside! the 486 in the name was complete bs, it was more like a buffed 386. when playing Tie Fighter unless I dialed everything down to just untextured rectangles, it was like playing a slideshow.

As an immigrant kid with a garage sale bike, I thought any kid that had one of these was the luckiest on earth....

and this, more than anything.... All I wanted to do between the age of 7-11 was play street hockey. The kids that had the nets were gods. All I ever wanted was a craptastic one of like this one...

I begged my parents for a hockey net for 3 years. Finally, one birthday I was convinced that I was actually going to get one. Instead, this is what I got...

I remember just looking at parents and being speechless. My mom was glowing with delight and commented on how happy I must be to receive this wonderful, educational gift. I turned on my heel and walked out of the house, planning never to come home again.

I get it....especially now in hindsight.

A Globe? Are you kidding me? You expect me to spin this stupid ball to find someplace?

Even just a map seems more efficient.

A Globe is just clutter.

If my hockey stick was handy, I would have smashed that stupid globe into a million pieces in front of my parents.... Lol...At 49, I haven't gotten over it, yet!

I'd have punted it off a bridge like in Anchorman.

Granted...you're 49. So when your parents offered you a Globe as a gift it was probably 'cutting edge technology.'

It was just as stupid a sh*t gift then as it would be now... Having two boys of my own allowed me to make up for it with a collection of the best mini-stick nets and street hockey nets money could buy...

i was always jealous of my friends who's parents packed them sweet lunches like pizza pops, burritos, cup noodles, instead of my crappy sandwiches with ONE slice of lunch meat...

I was also jealous of the friends who had street hockey goalie pads. I always loved playing goalie, but never had a set for myself
