He's the kind of guy who shouldn't be the leading guy on the team. He needs to be a secondary guy but he's relied on too much here.

I love Tkachuk but I would have traded him for Laine in a second.

I think this possibility is over-stated. These aren't the Sedins who have some sort of magical chemistry. These are just two guys with the same last name who kinda do the same things. Having both may be a good thing, or it may be too much of the same thing.
But I don't see why the Sens would trade their most important franchise piece just to get the bros together.

No way the last thing this team needs is another guy who sulks.
Would absolutely hate that deal

I just think you are more likely to win with players like Tkachuk than players like Johnny and Monahan. And it doesn't make sense to single out Tkachuk and his struggles this season, the whole team is garbage.
I could paste Johnny's name in your argument and it still holds, he hasn't done much of anything either especially in the playoffs.
Tkachuk is pissed off at how the team is rolling, I like that, and why the hell does he have to drag the team into games emotionally?? We need more players like Tkachuk, not less.
I'm done with Johnny and Monahan its been long enough, ship them both out.

Maybe Tre is just waiting for the next uptick in production before making any major moves because why sell at their lowest point? The whole team is so noticeably bad there's no way every GM in the league hasn't noticed.

And that's his biggest problem. Always waiting for the perfect trade, but somehow ends up just spinning his wheels.

I don't think you trade Tkachuk unless you plan to go scorched earth.
He's not a perfect player, his speed isn't the greatest, but his IQ and compete are extremely high. Tkachuk is a player you win with, in my honest opinion. I think we often forget how young he is since he's been in the league for so long. At 23 he's far from a finished product.
I think the problem we are seeing right now is that there's not enough compete from other players around him, particularly the forwards. They've often talked about how Chucky will pull teammates into games with his antics, but IMO it shouldn't be ON him to do that. If he's constantly the guy having to get his teammates engaged then it tells me that this team doesn't have enough players that compete hard enough and Tkachuk is probably going to end up trying to do too much which will cause his game to suffer.
Getting rid of Tkachuk doesn't solve this problem, it only makes it worse.

The issue for me with him is purely the contract and what its going to take to re-sign him.

Tkachuk ‘dragging people in to the battle’ (or game, the sportscasters usually say battle) is an idea that people talk about way, way more often than it actually happens
Every now and then he bothers a guy in the crease or throws a tantrum at the end of the game. Flips a hat.
That one Toronto game in the recent 2 game set, you could see he was putting in effort
But as for all of this ‘dragging people in to __’ talk? I mean keep saying it if it makes you happy. But it’s not something that is happening here

You guys DO realize that Tkatchuk is the best player on the Flames, right?
And has been since he joined the team?
You don't want to pay him what he's worth? What has Calgary as a team done to deserve to not pay players who are actually good?
Ridiculous train of thought.

But change for the sake of change even though you know the day of the trade is a losing proposition yields Sutter's Phaneuf deal.
With the current state of how COVID restricts so many possibilities. I still think you have to ride this group until the summer but at least give them a fighting chance with a competent coach that sees the team for what it is and then maximizes their strengths. All Ward is doing is exposing himself for being a tunnel vision over promoted assistant and insisting the players play whatever way he sees fit and not utilizing the tools that he does have.

This.
Ottawa is not trading their potential franchise player, especially for a player who needs to be shortly qualified at $9M and then will become a UFA.
Ottawa will let their young players learn together instead of trying to rush their rebuild.

The thing with Tkachuk, is if he chooses he can just accept the Flames qualifying offer in 2022, and be a UFA in 2023 at 25 years old.
To get him extended the Flames are likely going to have to pay through their teeth.
I would really love it Treliving could trade him for a similarly aged #1C. Even if you have to add to Tkachuk to get an elite one.

No team is trading an elite 1C for an elite winger unfortunately

But he is. By every metric.
His shooting percentage is way down this year, but he is still the best player on the team.

Depends on the situation. And when I mentioned the 1C being elite, I did say the Flames need to add.
