I like the Eichel/Okposo angle.
Skinner is untradeable and the Sabres will wear that one until the contract is through.
Getting Eichel would be a huge start in the right direction for the Flames.
Monahan, Valimaki, plus a first I would be fine with that.

And a total crapshoot if the CHL doesn't start play.

True. And I looked yesterday and like 4 of the top 5 picks are D, who the Flames don’t need as badly and who won’t impact for years.

That being the case, it seems to be a good year to load up on 2nd and 3rd round picks, as a lot of talent will slip through the cracks. Basically a bunch of lotto tickets.
Maybe the way to fix things is to try to move players for picks, then sign UFAs or make trades for roster players on draft day. Longer process, but easier to execute given the Covid restrictions.

May not have a choice. Most likely the Flames do nothing until the off season. I dont see Buff moving Eichel to us either. Can always hope though. I think we have a better chance getting Forsberg out of Nash for Johnny or some along those lines than Buff wanting Monahan. Rumor was Tre tried to move Mono in the off season already and there was no takers.

Monahan has the least value out of Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm, so no chance he's the centerpiece in an Eichel deal. Maybe 2 of them and Buffalo starts listening. You want an Eichel you probably have to draft one.

I think Tkachuk + 1st (this is a dangerously valuable asset, would have to be conditional/protected) + Pelletier/Zary + Bennett/Ryan (for cap and center depth) can get close to getting it done.
But if they want to get rid of Okposo for cap reasons, I could see Tkachuk being switched out for Gaudreau. But then the Flames would have to add Monahan, Gio, Hanafin, etc. to balance out the value and cap further.
I agree that Monahan probably has the least value at this point. But the Flames have shopped him before. As far as I know, they've never shopped Gaudreau, Linholm or Tkachuk.

Like I said earlier in the thread, there should be no untouchables in any potential Eichel deal.
I think, due to Covid and the inevitable problems that go with it, there won't be any big trades until the off-season. We're stuck with this roster for now.

I agree value wise but what is the point of getting him and then playing him with Lucic and Bennett? Need to keep Gaudreau or its pointless

I think Tkachuk should be a player the team shops this offseason. I don't think he's dynamic enough to warrant $9 million a season as he can't drive the play being one of the slowest skaters on the ice. The game is getting faster and I have a difficult time tying up all that money in one of the slowest players in the game.

Right, but he's also the smartest player on the team, the most willing to compete, and lives rent free in the oppositions head.
Not to mention the message that sends the rest of the team shipping out the one player who really gives a #### and battles consistently. We should be building around Tkachuk.
We trade Johnny 10 times before we trade Tkachuk IMO.

What could we get from OTT if we sent him to play with his bro?

Being 'dynamic' is only one part of the game.

I think the sad truth is that none of the big 3 are a good bet to keep.
Monahan is a one trick pony. Too slow and soft to drive a line.
Johnny is too small and soft, book is out on him. Contract status and being from NE USA begs questions if he'd want to stay here.
Tkachuk. So slow. No show in the playoffs. Rift in the room? Huge qualifying $$$. USA bound?
Lot's of tough decisions.

What would we have to add to Tkachuk to try and get Stutzle?

Pretty underwhelmed with Valimaki when I think back to the trades that were supposedly nixed because he was an ask.

Battles consistently? He's as guilty of anyone else of being a no-show. Him botching that open net against the Leafs that led to the OT loss is typical Matthew. He's never been clutch for this organization when they needed someone to step up. Never shows up down the playoff stretch or in the playoffs. I think he's been built up as a guy that wants to win bad but doesn't have the tools to complete that. His skating is so bad you just can't mask that even with intelligence. He would be an elite player 25 years ago but today he's just too slow.
