Not making anything up.
Making the safe play, getting it deep, getting the puck behind their dmen, better puck management, not taking risks in the neutral zone, etc are all things that Ward has directly said or indicated in the media that he wants the team to be doing.
He wants them playing safe, low risk hockey, he’s pretty much said as much.
Which is fine as a coach to want but IMO it leaves really little margin for error.
Flames invite a ton of pressure, break out slow, and it feels like they have to work for an hour to get a single chance in the offensive zone. Maybe it’s not the system but I see a team that looks to be wanting to take the game into the mud every night. Grind it out along the boards and try to grind out a win.
