result of first is not ideal but i thought they had some good jump to start. just keep that up and hopefully the passing can connect just a tad better.

pretty good movement in the o zone once possession but perhaps a little better off the puck to time up some chances in dangerous areas.

keep skating.

Monahan’s post?

Flames actually got off to a good start, but then they broke down defensively for the first goal and Ottawa got rolling. Fragile.

There’s stuff to blame Ward for, but I have a hard time believing he says to only pass around the outside and to take no shots.

That all said, I think the Ottawa team and goaltending can still be taken. They’ve been up in plenty of games they lost.

Except the Oilers blew them out. And the Oilers are MUCH closer to Peter McNeeley than Mike Tyson.

How many games have we been down 2-0 this season? It’s pretty impressive.

This was the last surprising first period frankly, which is pathetic.

Tkachuk visibly upset as he goes off the ice yet again...

Monahan and Johnny both had atrocious passing attempts to finish that period too. Our top players can hurt us so much. When they're off, they aren't just invisible but outright making stupid mistakes.

I'm not going to pretend to know what positive or negative impact the coach has on the specifics, but at the very least it doesn't feel like we're a better team under Geoff Ward. We have some pretty talented players and yet generate almost nothing dangerous at even strength. This team has been really painful to watch most games so far this year.

We need a significant change, if not several.

When's the last time the Flames came out and just dominated a team? I honestly can't remember.

Hartley treated players about as well as Babcock, except he didn’t have as much power.

Just...a bit outside. How can these guys lay off pitches that close?

It's not inconceivable that the Flames end up coming out of Ottawa in last place in the division.

He wasn't great, but he got more effort out of these guys at least and had experience. He also had the least talent to work with of any of the coaches we've had in any of the last 15 years.

Monahan had Murray beat easily but hit the crossbar. But yes, not a lot of chances. Lindy had a great open shot, then chose to skate it further until he had nothing. The Monahan line had a 3-on-2 and didn't get a single shot on net.

The Sens got the puck at the blueline, got traffic in front and scored. It's not rocket science.

So strange how Lindholm passes up that opportunity to shoot for a worse one. This team is horrible at getting pucks on net. Gio can't get a puck through to the net to save his life.

I suspect Tkachuk was mad at the non call - he was tackled beside the net when the puck was at the far wall.

Johnny killed a dominant shift by just handing the puck over. Monahan gave the puck away with a bad pass in the NZ for a great chance the other way. Ward didn’t coach those errors. But he also doesn’t seem to be working on passing. Too basic, maybe?

Play uninspired. Play safe. Don't be creative. Pass poorly. That's a few things I've picked up about the Ward system.

The "defend Geoff Ward Camp" consists entirely of people saying this core sucks or the team is mentally fragile.

To be fair, the players only play as well as they want to and that needs to change. Poor excuse for an effort, very uninspired!
