Thing is I don’t give Ward a pass for what happened before November 29th.
Coming into 2019-2020 season the Coaching staff, which included Ward decided they wanted to play a heavier, more defensive system they they thought would work better in the playoffs.
After Peters was fired they kept playing that system, and Ward went one step further moving to an even more passive, collapse defense in the defensive zone.
It hasnt worked at all in that time, even considering a bit of a bump record wise after Peters was fired.
Outside of the little post coach blip where they went on a win streak the team has been a .500 team playing this style. It just doesn’t work with this roster, and that’s with getting the 6th best goaltending on the entire NHL in that time.
