Eichel is a tough nut to crack. I am just not sure how the trade works.
I'd only want to give up Monahan+Bennett+1st 2021+Prospects (maybe 1st 2022 but then we are really risking it). Not sure if enough but any more, IMO, guts the team too much to make it worth it. We would just be another Buffalo.
Tkachuk-Eichel-Gaudreau must be tempting for the americans though. It's an interesting angle, sort of positioning calgary as the american player hub of Canada. Americans and swedes dominating the roster...

I think that package would be pretty solid if the prospect is a zary/wolf/pelletier

Doing a little bit of digging on this Eichel trade topic, one article that caught my attention had the following:
To Calgary - Eichel
To Buffalo - Monahan, Valimaki, Pelletier + 1st
I think that compensation is steep but fair. Obvious what Calgary gets in the deal. Buffalo gets a legit 1C to fill in until Cozens emerges. With Valimaki they get a potential top pairing d-man who is already an NHL regular. Pelletier is looking like a legit NHLer at some point. The added first to sweeten the pot.
I think I would pull trigger based on being able to keep Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Lindholm upfront.
Gaudreau - Eichel - Mangiapane
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Dube
The fact Hanifin + Rasmus have taken another step this year softens the blow on the backend, but certainly makes things thinner back there longer term.

It would be tough to give up Pelletier, but Cozens would probably have great things to say about him and be eager to see him join the new core of the Sabres.
It just barely works salary wise- I actually think it just fits because of the salary juggling we did with Ryan at the beginning of the season. Might have to do a bit more work when ryan is ready to come off IR but that's a then problem lol.
If Buffalo accepts I think you have to pull the trigger on that. Like i said though, I couldn't stomach any more.

This trade is doable IMO, but doesn't work for us cap wise. Valimaki doesnt earn enough.
Monahan+Bennett+Valimaki+1st would work.

If Buffalo was willing to do that, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Getting Eichel without needing to take on Skinner? Sign me up! Doubt that's all it takes though.
Then you re-up Johnny long-term, that top 6 is lethal.

I would think Buffalo would want to create cap space with an Eichel deal. Helps them soften the blow from the Skinner deal. Obviously we would need a separate transaction to get us back into cap compliance.

Meh, if Buffalo was willing to do that trade, I'd do it and worry about the cap after. There's options like dumping Bennett for a 5th round pick to another team. I'm sure the Ducks would have no issues with that trade.

Wonder if Buffalo asks for Rittich? Their goaltending (Hutton and Ullmark) is awful

Maybe give up a different defenseman and add in Rittich instead of trading Valimaki. Which "lesser" defensemen could work if you were to add in Rittich? Beats me. I'm no good at real life trade scenarios.

Interesting thought. Helps the potential salary balance as well...
But are we interested in letting Rittich go when we know he is capable of playing like last night? It would suck to watch him become Hasek in Buffalo lol.

Eichel is a great talent but I'm not sure about his attitude. Didn't he get the last coach fired? And now he seems unhappy again. Doesn't seem like a great leader or a guy you want to break the bank for.
On the other hand they basically gave O'Reilly away for free so...

Monahan+Bennett+Rittich+Pelletier+1st 2021
Eichel+Montour+Ullmark
?
Tkachuk-Eichel-Gaudreau
Mangi-Lindholm-Dube
Lucic-Backlund-Leivo
Nordstrom-Ryan-Ritchie
Hanifin-Tanev
Valimaki-Rasmus
Gio-Montour
Markstrom
Ullmark
That's still pretty shallow up front. I am not sure if it is worth it. I might be more interested if we can still try and snag someone like Jarnkrok to bolster the bottom 6 more... or let some of the younger guys like Phillips and ruzika have looks.

Truculent!

Why would the Flames do this?
What does adding Eichel to this roster do?
Especially after subtracting what you seem to think it would take.

Blues lost Gunnarsson for the season. Also, Blues are not saying, but Parayko may need back surgery and speculation is he is out long term. Add to that Tarasenko, Schwartz, Thomas, Steen (retired/LTIR), Barbashev and Bozak all out right now. Here is a team who could use some NHL bodies

Rather go after Forsberg without giving farm away on Eichel
