Got to keep Tkachuk too. I know there has been some recent frustration, but let’s not get silly. I would trade Monahan over Tkachuk 9 days a week. I would also consider adding Hanafin to your list. He’s been solid for the most part and is on a good deal.

I know you are a big fan so this will come off harsh, but Monahan is the most flawed player in the top 6.
The team has to improve on the top line C to go anywhere. He has proven to be very ineffective 5-5 and when the games get tougher.

And if they somehow get that top line C, putting Monahan on the second line as natural progression would dictate does not guarantee success. His flaws will follow him no matter what line he is on. A slow, soft C that is a bit of a one trick pony is not a great fit on any line. We can't always count on Johnny to be his line mate, he may leave himself or play on another line.
Some will bring up Monahan's rookie year, pre-Johnny. But the league has become so much faster, Monahan's skating has simply not kept up.

You did know that Monahan was out and we lost back to backs with Edmonton? This is your conclusion? It's Monahans fault LOL

Uhm, ya. That's what I said in a reply to a guy that wants to rebuild around Monahan in a trade speculation thread.

Are you lost?

Swoosh....

Disagree. Monahan Is our top playoff producer over his entire career with the team and is close to or is leading the franchise in gwg. He does get better in tough games.

Agree to disagree.

Just have to add this. How many GWG does he have in the playoffs?

The Flames won like 7 playoff games since Monahan joined the team.

Sean Monahan has yet to score a game winning goal in the playoffs.

Maybe I am looking at the wrong data Monahammer?

How many in, say 5 years before? Answer: 2 games

How many GWG does the team’s best offensive player, Gaudreau, have? HOw many does “look how hard I try” Tkachuk have? How many does “better 1C than Monahan” Lindholm have? Answer for all these guys is 0. How many does “best player in the POs” Bennett have? 1

GWG is a goofy stat anyway. Unless you’re in OT or right at the end of a tied game you don’t know if a particular goal will win the game. You could argue first goal of the game is far more important.

You are, because he has 1 GWG.

Same as Bennett, more than Gaudreau, Lindholm, Tkachuk.

I really wish we had signed Tyler Toffoli. Perfect fit on the top line and would only have cost money to make it happen.

I wanted Hoffman myself.

but I get it, we only had cap space for an RW, a Brodie replacement, and a goalie but not all 3.
Shame though

I want more Mangiapane types. Heart, skill and a dog on a bone type player.

Maybe this is true about Nashville but is Calgary really any offensive juggernaut that can turn around a slumping players performance? I just don't see that happening in Calgary.

Personally, I think Montreal lucked out as he apparently wanted to play for his favorite team. Look at him in LA the past couple seasons - he wasn't skilled, he wasn't fast, and he wasn't scoring. I don't know what changed in the off-season but he's suddenly turned around. Personally I was happy the Flames didn't get him at the time because I don't think he's skilled enough to be getting top dollar or on the first line, but he's doing well in Montreal, so it may be been a good move in hindsight.

I wasnt the one that brought it up. Just found it strange to paint Monahan as some playoff warrior type.

That doesn’t mean much as we lost all the time

Tyler Toffoli would have wanted to sign with the Flames. I suspect Treliving had a better grasp on that likelihood than anyone on this forum does.

Re-checked. No GWG for Monahan unless you are counting the playins vs Winnipeg which is debatable as a playoff series.
Not that it matters really, I was just proving my point to the other poster. Monahan would be tied for a franchise record on one team only, the Seattle Kraken.

With the amount of money we spent on Robinson, Leivo, Simon, Nordstrom and Ritchie contracts... in a year where 1 year deals for seasoned veterans were the norm it really is disappointing this team didn’t add one more higher profile player as opposed to a handful of dime a dozens.
