It frustrates the hell out of me on how many debates we have to have about where to get our energy, and it’s never about the obvious answer that is staring everyone in the face. Nuclear. Everything else sucks in comparison, it’s not even close. Wind, solar, and fossil fuels, are the Flintstones car to a Tesla in Nuclear.

.And because we have been transitioning out of coal, we actually had to buy power from more cold resistant energy sources from Montana, BC and Saskatchewan.
This is a complete non sequitur. Alberta is a net importer of electricity on an annual basis.

Didn't Alberta give 1B to private concerns to increase the export capability for energy (electric) during the Redford era?
The last powerline that crossed the Alberta border was the line to Montana built by Tonbridge. This was long before Redford was Premier. Not sure what you are referring to.

Yes, I mean there's literally no downside what so ever
Literally the safest form of clean power (minus the waste) available to humanity, we should be building modern nuclear plants everywhere, there has been so much progress in their designs and technology, yet people still fear it because of old nuclear power plants built in the 50's and 60's.
We've come such a long way, but we can't get these built because of people not having information about what modern nuclear energy is all about.

I think you may be refering to additional grid capacity construction with in Alberta.
The outrage was that consumers are paying for additional north south capacity to bring northern Co-gen south.... More power brought south meant more opportunity to export power
Affected landowners in my area for quick to describe the line for export purposes
Brooks Solar Plant has not been above 1 MW since October.
That entire post was such a mess lol.
You say it didn't reach 1MW since October (2019) when you posted in January (2020). Yet literally the next day, November 1, 2019, it peaked at 10 MW lol.
Except for getting into the extremes, photovoltaic solar works fine in cold weather... usually better. It doesn't absorb heat from the sun, it absorbs light. The problem with solar in winter is snow and less daylight. But even snow can be beneficial as it reflects light, so long as the panels are cleared of it. Yeah -40 things start to get wonky, but most people advocating for green energy realize that on a extremely cold, windless February night, we can't power our homes with solar and wind. But something like yesterday? It was producing a peak of 7.5 MW. So yeah, we need natural gas if we want to not freeze to death but it doesn't mean that it can't be supplemented by renewables.

You should be ashamed by this post to be honest.
I am not saying we can't talk about the risks associated with nuclear in an honest and open fashion, but to just fear monger- it hurts our climate.
The on-going, no context attacks against developing nuclear energy is helping global warming.
Germany for example, lighting up coal plants... because they decided to be anti-nuclear.
Friends of a friend ended up having to spend the night in their SUV to keep warm before finding a hotel. The mom is 7 months pregnant and they have a toddler as well, so I can only imagine what a gong show a sleep over in the SUV was like, but thankfully they are safe now.

Why didn't the just pack up the family and head to Mexico?
Want to provide rationale on that $30 million dollars of tax payers money going into Brooks Solar?...
I have no rationale for wasting taxpayer money. Solar is horrible in Canada no matter how you sugar coat it. Medicine Hat shut down theirs because it was cheaper to not use it when natural gas is so much better.

I said median in my post. That Brooks got 10 MW in a full sunny day just at noon for about hour with 0 well over half the day at 0 is the absolute opposite of reliable. You know why? Because we have short days in the winter and late fall. The cold doesn't even come in the equation, you also have to remember you need sun lol.
I forgot to mention they weren’t politicians...haha.
I didn’t have the heart to ask details, but they are originally from Calgary and I’m not sure if they took their vehicle with them, so I was wondering if they might have actually had decent all season tires. I’m not sure how far they had to travel to find a hotel with power, but can confirm, it was not Mexico...haha.

So how is a private company investing $30 million into Alberta’s economy wasting tax payer money? Isn’t investment into the economy exactly what we want?
Don’t tell me you don’t even recognize that generation in Alberta is privately owned.
Medicine Hat’s was an experimental solar project. It wasn’t photovoltaic lol. You have no clue what you’re taking about.
