Lots of us aren't that. Lots of us stick around and grind it out because we are invested in the team and don't let wins and losses drive us away. I'm one of those. The Flames don't make it easy, but there you go. They're my team, I'm all in.
This is ridiculous. So because you criticize or have any negative thoughts towards the team you are considered a "fair weather fan"? LOL. The only way you can be considered "all in" is if you tow the company line? haha. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Not what TC said at all. A fairweather fan is one who sees no point in cheering for any team unless it's a probable winner – and we've definitely seen a couple of those in this thread.

But hey, you do you, and reading comprehension be damned.

I think you should heed your own advice, that is exactly what he said.

The negativity consists in one case of cheering for the team to lose, and in the second case, of ridiculing all the other fans who are still interested in the team. Both of those are the marks of fairweather fans, if not of actual anti-fans. I stand by what I said.

Ridicule other fans? What are you talking about? I'm not talking about ridiculing any fan. I'm strictly talking about fans being able to criticize the team they support for their lack of on ice production without being labelled "fair weather".

He specifically referred to two instances.

Any chance we can turn down the suck in here?

Without commenting on my own status as a fan, can I say that I am very excited about the Flames this season.
Indeed there remain flaws, some of which may prove fatal to their playoff dreams, yet I am optimistic.

I think the Canadian division will tighten up as teams improve their systems and execution combined with an evening-out of home/road splits and uniformity of opposition.

I believe the Flames are well-suited to the long haul and will be a major player in their division.

That’s not what this argument has been about

Friggin' love that little bastard.

As a side note, I'm seeing a lot of other teams' fans calling our boys dirty and cheap and so on. I don't really see it. Tkachuk, yeah, obviously. He's been known to slew foot and jab the goalie. But Lindholm? Dube? Mangiapane? I don't really see it.

Yep I’ve become a huge fan of him. I like his tenacious play, he has been really effective and I absolutely love his fearless attitude. He’ll just as soon jump in to defend a bottom pair dman as he would Johnny and wouldn’t hesitate if it was Tyler Myers or big Buff himself.

Yea that’s not what I am, though I get what you’re saying. I still follow prospects, the draft, and watch most games. However, when I watch the games, I don’t get too invested. They’re not worth my personal investment. The mental attrition over the years has been too much.

Isn’t that just part of getting older? In 2004 when the Flames went on their run I was 20 years old and for the next decade+ I lived and died on the Flames. A win was a good day and a loss pissed me off way more than it should.

I just find that now at 37 I have too much real life stuff to get happy and sad about that a Flames win or loss doesn’t do much to my mood anymore. Playoffs are a different beast but I simply am not as emotionally connected to the team as I was when I was younger.

I still spend a crap ton of time on this forum, I watch pretty much every game, and follow the team closely but I think I have outgrown the emotional rollercoaster and look forward to when I can ride it again when I retire.

End of the day I don’t get why people get so upset that this has been a mediocre team? Next year it will be a 32 team league and we are a bottom 5 market in that league with the worst building in the NHL. Making the playoffs and having the pieces to go on a run is worth cheering for and watching for me.

As the years have gone by, many folks have persisted to follow the team, watch the games, and post on here on a regular (or somewhat-regular) basis. I would not consider any of them to be "fair weather".

If we complain after a loss, we're overreacting over one loss.
If we complain after a win, we're negative Nancy's who should learn to enjoy the wins.

So when can we criticize this team? We're not Oiler fans - we can actually think critically and rationally.

Most complaints are probably the product of prolonged mediocrity, regardless of the most recent game outcome.
But then I guess if you're posting on a post-game thread it's easy to associate all of your feelings with just one game. There are other ongoing threads that view the season in more of a macro sense.

We could win the cup 3 times in a row and there would still be whining.

100% convinced.

Personally, I'm fine discussing what they need to improve on, even after wins. I've been critical of their breakouts for weeks, even after yesterdays game.

What annoys me are the people that seemingly cheer for losses so they can go all 'I told you so" and jump on whoever their new favourite whipping boy is.
