I think that this is great advice. There is nothing more annoying to me than being too cheap to spend a little more and dealing with subpar equipment.
I'm saying in part to remind myself of how cheap I can be at times!

Between that and whatever you get, make sure it's something that you actually enjoy or want to do. There are going to be days where you know you should workout, and just aren't feeling it. At least having this be something that you generally like and don't have to force can go a long way on those days!

Concept 2 is the gold standard for rowing machines.

They sell quickly on Kijiji, for a pretty high price. There aren't any for sale right now in Alberta. You'd be able to recoup most of that $1,250. Probably $1,000. I bought mine a few years ago on Kijiji. I could probably sell it for more than I paid for it.

You can pick up treadmills for free all the time, but not Concept 2 rowers. Olympic weights and Concept 2's might be the only exercise equipment that hold their value.

In the summer I started looking around for a squat rack, bar, and plates for a home gym and everything used seemed to barely be less than brand new equipment. So I splurged a little and bought my equipment from rogue fitness.

Almost everything had a long leadtime due to their stock on almost everything being sold out, but the quality is amazing and I know that it will last for a long time!

We bought a Peloton and a Concept2. The concept 2 is the gold standard Rower IMO, and a hell of a workout.

We recently added a set of battle ropes to our set up at home (which is VERY modest at a couple of kettle balls and dumbells).

The ropes are a lot of fun, and a GREAT workout. A HIIT workout takes 15min, and really challenging. (20secs on, 10secs off) Lots of youtube workouts out there to follow as well.

We paid around $125 I think for the set bought, off Amazon.

I bought a spin bike back in March (Bowflex C6), then signed up for the Peloton digital membership. Its been awesome. I like rowers too, but they can be loud and I find I bore of that activity pretty quickly.

For anyone looking for an affordable bench for dumbell work, etc. We just picked up this one from amazon and so far its been pretty great considering the low price.

I really like working out at home and fortunately have space. I've got a treadmill, bike, bench with a stand that can extend up for squatting, 3x barbell(1 Olympic and 2 universal), adjustable dumbells, a few hex dumbbells, and a power tower for pull-ups, dips, leg lifts, etc. I also have some bands, exercise balls, and a landmine attachment for the power tower.

I really want a good-quality power cage, but man are they expensive. My current stand is rated for 300 lbs, but is not very stable at 200 lbs. Rouge has a folding wall mount I want, but it will be over $2000 with shipping.

My other option is a cheap cage from Amazon for $600.

Anyone here use cages at home?

I have a heavy bag, rack & plates, & treadmill.

It kind of does the job when my body allows me to work out.

I will echo those that say Concept2. My office gym has one. I started using it and it is spot on.

I will say that if you start rowing, spend some time learning how to row. There is a technique to it and the better your technique the more you get out of it.

There are some good resources on youtube for rowing. Take the time and learn, it is worth it.

Sorry, I missed this before I made my post. What did you get? I'm looking at the folding wall mount lite rack.

My wife and I just spent an obscene amount of money at Rogue and Tydex to equip our home, but have only received the bumper plates from Tydex at this point. I got a powerack that has a pulley system, so I basically have a complete home gym coming. It was very pricy but I think it'll be worth it.

Bells of Steel is local (free Calgary pick-up), mostly sold out from a quick search.
https://www.bellsofsteel.com/

Check out Gorila Fitness. Made and ships from Canada, so I'm assuming cheaper all-in price.

IMO Squat stands should be sufficient if from a reputable company

Ugh. I always thought that the ropes seemed cool and fun and then I actually did them. They're torture and there is no way I could do 15 minutes!

I have a power rack and it's great. I bought mine off kijiji a few years ago and I would highly recommend looking on there. I do agree that you could get away with a squat stand and it would be sufficient, but I do like that you get the safety of the cage. I think that the guy I bought it off had built a few for the police or something like that? Regardless, it's fairly heavy duty and more than enough for me.

Thanks for the link to Gorila Fitness. I might use them. It looks like it will be a long lead time, but at least they ship to me in the NWT.

I wish I could get a cage second hand. I watch online and have Facebook marketplace notification set-up, but things go fast. Over the last five years, I was able to get my power tower, a universal bar, and some plates, but I've never seen a cage.

I like to do a lot of pull-ups, dips, and might get into some ring work. So I like the stability of a cage, especially if I can mount it to the wall. I also like the idea of spotter's arms. For some reason, my 5' 105 lbs wife doesn't like spotting for me.
