Treliving reduced the cap hit to 5.25, got a 3rd, got a serviceable bottom six player, and more importantly removed a toxic player. If you had to pick a winner so far it is clearly tilted in one direction.
Again, because the Oilers are over $81.5M with LTIR contracts, there is no cap savings from sending Neal down. Zero.

Wanna here something even funnier, I seen on FB on one of the hockey pages , this writer was saying that the Oilers should go after Ryan Getzlaf, the oiler fans where saying that is a great idea and all it would take is Neal and a first to the ducks to get it done

To be fair, there is a very, very strong chance that 1st will be 1OA...

Neal sucks and deserves all the criticism thrown his way.

However, until Lucic fights an Oiler, he can't be credited with always giving his all and standing up for his teammates no matter what. Tkachuk had to deal with Kassian rag dolling him on multiple nights, and Lucic say comfortably on the bench.

He needs to beat the snot out of an Oiler to get my respect.

What oiler would even be dumb enough? Kassian's pretty dumb, but I'm pretty sure he'd be juuust smart enough to know that would not turn out well for him.

Thought this could use a bump.

Lucic with a goal, +2 and 12 minutes last night while Neal was on the taxi squad.

Flames won, Oilers lost.

I thought Ward was overplaying Lucic early, but it worked out and his game has rounded into form.

Lucic also isn’t a guy who will risk suspension by coming off the bench, or chasing down a guy outside the play. he wasn’t on the ice when Kassian attacked Tkachuk from behind, and I don’t even know how much time they spend on the ice against each other. Lucic will fight if it comes from a play he’s in, or at the least, in a scrum when he is already on the ice. And even then I don’t think he’d fight an unwilling participant, and there aren’t very many willing ones.

He will crush someone on the boards if given a chance.

I think you make some great points there, but what I would have liked to have seen much like how Kassian in his interviews and the media were ripping on Tkachuk and pressuring him to fight. I think Lucic could have said something in the media like "If Kassian wants to fight Tkachuk he has to fight me first." Could have neutralized the situation a little, as Kassian already got to rag doll Tkachuk right after the hit(s).

Having Lucic protect our stars was one of the main reasons for the trade.

Yeah, no. That makes Tkachuk look weak. And could well be fine material.

And no, that wasn’t one of the main reasons for the trade. The trade was all about getting rid of Neal. Treliving would have done it for almost any other player. Lucic was just the best he could do.
