His comment was two sentences. Pretty easy to figure out what he’s right about. This perpetual mediocrity gives management just enough hope to keep the core together, though we know exactly where this ends: A fourth place finish in the North division, followed by a 6-game first round loss in which we are drastically outshot in each game.

For better or worse this is a team that's going to be in the running for the last playoff spot in the division and given how terrible the division is they may even be able to win their first round matchup. To me that doesn't make for a successful season but it's still a lot better than being the Canucks or Senators.
I can’t really bring myself to cheer against them either, and I did enjoy the victory last night, but they’re hollow victories.

But this also assumes that there is a realistic alternative. The Flames have a core group of players in their mid-twenties, and just signed a UFA goalie to a six-year deal. Like it or not, this is the team for the foreseeable future. It makes no sense to me that a fan would whine and bitch about wins in a situation like this.

Also, I am pretty confident that the Flames can win a playoff round or two in the Canadian Division.

Don’t know why it takes getting a deficit to allow our dmen to jump up, tell them to play like that from the first minute.
That's completely ignoring the opposition though.

The Canucks get a two goal lead and step back on the forecheck a bit until they get down and then the push again.

"Hollow victories." Please. For as poor as the Flames have looked at times they have won 6 of their last 9 games, with 7 of those on the road. I hope you are preparing yourself for a lot of disappointment, because they are going to win a lot more games over the next three months.

I know people want to win every game big, but sometimes I don't think people give enough credit to the opposition. Canucks play a very structured game and don't give up a lot. At the end of the day Flames are 4-1 against a rival team so far this season. Ugly wins are still wins.

A little rough out of the gate and all the penalties took them off their game early, but the team was able to rebound and started to play better as the game went on. I do agree the team is missing a component right now or not firing on all cylinders. The optimist in me thinks that if the Tkachuk line can be a bit better 5v5, then it will have a domino effect.

Thanks, I'm such a forum technology noob. Also, there's some colourful language in the second tweet. I know this is a wholesome place but don't know what can be done about it.

The realistic alternative would be shaking up the core, which was talked about in the off season. I was really hoping they'd do that, and many thought it was almost a sure thing. But then we signed an elite goalie, which is great, but all it's going to do is mask our pre-existing issues.

And yes, I'm prepared to see just enough victories over the next few months to get us into 4th place. If this team wins a round, they might get my attention, but I'm not going to allow myself to become too invested again. Though even if we do win a round, if we ever have to play Vegas or Colorado? Yikes. Might close my eyes for that one. And there lies the problem.

The goal is to win championships, not squeak into the playoffs and become fodder. To jump down this posters' throat for an opinion is ridiculous. Especially considering you all know deep down his opinion is correct.

I'd like to be a contender, or a team that's on the path to being one. Right now, we're neither.

Or perhaps I’m drawing on this core’s performance since 2014.

1. You called us short sighted based on our opinion

Monahan is in the right places but has no confidence shooting right now. If he was his normal self, he'd easily have another 5-6 goals. Good to see him contribute by making plays for Johnny though. I'm sure he'll regain his scoring touch.

The dynamic duo has has a strong start. Backlund and Mangiapane also strong Lindholm looking great at centre. Better balanced D. Great goaltending. Perplexing that the team is still so mediocre despite all that. I think you really do have to look at coaching.

I'm really enjoying fanbases from other teams and even media crying about how dirty the Flames are at that MT is absolute scum.

My response is we need to be even more brutal, and despicable. If you're going to be hated, be hated, bath is your dirtiness, take liberties, punish teams, be poor sports. This is pro hockey not a tea party.

For too many years we stood back while other teams played a nastier game then the Flames, now the shoes on the other foot. I mean Oiler fans crying about how dirty the Flames are is laughable as long as they have the ultimate liberty taking spot picker in the league in Kassian. And one of the biggest weak ankled divers in the game in McDavid.

I'd like a Flames philosophy built around the phrase that parents in the 50's used. "Hey you want me to really give you something to cry about?"

I want to be part of the most hated fan base in the league, that supports the most hated team. I don't want the terms classy, and nice, and great to play against associated with the Flames on ice product.

That might have happened had COVID-19 not created so many obstacles to making deals. We know for a fact that Treliving was in the mix for Pierre Lucic Dubois, so I am pretty sure he also sees exactly where this team needs a shakeup. I don't believe for a second that anyone in management is duped by pre-existing issues.

I guess we will see what happens. I think the Flames beat the Stars in the first round last year had Markstrom been in goal.

I am not jumping down anyone's throat because of an opinion. I am rolling my eyes HARD at how some of these opinions are projected following a Flames win on the road while playing without their #2 centre.

That is just the cycle of sports, though. It is completely unrealistic to expect every team to either be contending or rebuilding. This is the group that is going to play out the season; if you are a fan, why not enjoy as much of it as you can?

Let's be honest: if any one of us was as beautiful as Elias Lindholm we would all suffer from acute anxiety about sticks, fists and elbows in our perfectly chiselled faces.

The bump back can be a very effective way to break into the offensive zone as a unit, and this was a good example, but there have been far more horrible examples as the season goes on. It's overused and there are typically two guys way way behind the play standing there flat-footed. Half the time the puck doesn't even get to one of them and the whole team has to retreat. The OT poweplay was clinical entry and all but the PP has otherwise been dreadful the past 3 games.
