Yeah let's take the guy who has been playing musical chairs with NHL teams the last few years. Definitely seems like the kind of character guy this fragile team needs. I know some are dissatisfied with the results this year, but come on.

How about this for a counter intuitive take.
This trade actually opens the door for Toronto to make a deal for Bennett as it boosts their depth and will allow them to trade a piece(s) to Calgary.

Hot take Scorp. Might want to compare him to some of the talent on the Flames. I mean, if you're going to put him down for only putting up 24 points last season, then maybe we could apply that same brush to someone who put up half that in similar time? This team needs another player with ability to make a pass and convert chances. Galchenyuk would have been an improvement over multiple players on our current roster.

He wouldn’t be an improvement on anyone. He would be the exact same as Simon , Nordstrom and Leivo. Not sure why flames would want to an add another player that should be in press box? If we are adding someone it better be someone who is a legit top 9 player . Preferably a top 6 player.

Getting him, not getting him...it doesn't really matter. He wouldn't be the missing piece or enough to make this team good enough so it doesn't matter.
This team isn't good enough because they miss out on guys like PLD, Laine, Anderson. "Missing out" on a guy like this doesn't mean anything.

Wow there are some real hot takes in this thread.
Has anybody here watched Galchenyuk recently? He’s on his 7th team and is already 27 years old. He has some offensive skill, but he needs a plump assignment with great players to even have moderate success.
He’s a disaster in his own zone. There’s a reason literally every team in the league passed on him for free. It’s because he’s bad.

Unless Galchenyuk was going to show up and inject heart and drive into the current roster from top to bottom then he isn't the answer.

Don't forget Stone, Zucker, Kadri, Hall; hell, might as well throw in Barzal, Kucherov, Point too while we are at it. I'm sure there's more misses that we don't even know about.

Galchenyuk's star has really fallen..
roll of the dice for Toronto...but at this point, I doubt he can make it back to being a top 6 player.

He has cleared waivers, he probably doesn't make it off the taxi squad.

Don’t worry we’ll get our chance to have this hot commodity. He’s already played for half the league.

What is being missed here is the Flames don't have a lot of money to play with, so they are going to have to take a flyer on guys with some warts. They need to find a guy with some top six talent, even if it means he's bounced around a bit. The acquisition cost has to be minimal so they don't blow anymore assets. Galchenyuk has obvious warts, but also skill to play in the top six in a complimentary role. It is worth a gamble. What's the worst that could happen? You put him on waivers and send him to the minors? We are missing something and the team needs to turn over every rock right now. A trade does not appear to be on the horizon to help the skill level.

I personally don't think he's there for the Leafs top 12 as they're good enough without him. He's good for the taxi squad I think.
I do think the Flames missed out on him for 4th line minutes. They could easily have someone else in mind but there are three or so guys who should not be on an NHL roster right now.

It's really too bad. He seemed genuinely excited and grateful to get a chance to rebound on a young team in Ottawa. He didn't seem to get a chance there averaging only around 9 minutes of ice-time per game and not dressing for some of the games.
The coaches in Ottawa obviously have scoop better than me, so I trust them over my own instincts. They obviously wanted to see him rebound more than anyone. Realistically, most players aren't going to rebound being scratched and hardly playing, but I assume that he sucked so bad that he didn't warrant more of an opportunity.

Suitcase galchenyuk......hopefully he just signs short term leases for accommodations wherever he goes and isn’t currently listing multiple properties for sale

Funny but, with Toronto, he’s played for almost half the division.

Such a strange take to lament about missing out on Galchenyuk. Odd.
