Default Canucks 3 Flames 1

Game Takes: Canucks 3 Flames 1

- Markstrom almost pulls it off again
- Flames play with fire in back to back games and finally get burned
- Backlund hurt
- Ugly game against a desperate team

The ice seemed really bad last night. Bobbled passes, and no glide.
For both teams, though clearly the Canucks handled it better.
That or the entire team was hungover/tired.

The normal bad start was horibad last night. There is simply no excuse for it and it's getting old really fast. I'm sure the coaches have tried every motivational tool they have in the bag, so I'm just gonna say it's all on the players. This has been a standard for the team for awhile and there is simply no excuse.

I can see counting on your goalie to make big saves if you have your pedal to the metal and are generating scoring chances, but there is literally nothing.

Hockey Stats cards

Have Gio and Anderson having good games and the other 4 d-men had bad games.

Mackey was the worst player on the ice. Valimaki, Tanev and Hanifin all their worst game of the season, Each having their first bad game of the year by the Hockey Stat Cards formula.

What a hard year to break into the NHL. This is the first pro game for Mackey. Do you give him more at the NHL level or let him play against some pros in the AHL?

The thought of Backlund missing significant games really high-lights the Flame depth along with their good fortune over the last 2 and counting seasons with the top-5 forwards missing a handful of games. Now with Ryan out and maybe Backlund they have trouble rolling 3 solid lines, never mind 4

If they want to give Mackey another shot they might go with 7 d-men... 11 forwards

Where do the lines go from here? That Backlund injury hurts. As much as I like the idea of Bennett with Monny/Johnny, he either ends up replacing Dube on the Lindholm line (so Dube can take third line centre duties) or centering the third line himself. As an aside, I don't think that Bennett on the second line has been a good stylistic match, and Dube/Bennett swapping should have been done before the Backlund injury anyway, to try and get the Lindholm line some chemistry.

I'd imagine if Backlund is out then Gawdin draws in.

Wow. What an awful game.

Beyond that, I am not one to complain about the broadcast crew, but Jim Hughson was driving me nuts last night. It was hilarious in the first period when the Canucks were on their first powerplay:

Hughson: "The Canucks have a GREAT powerplay..." [screen caption shows Canucks powerplay rated #21 @ 16%] "...er, um, ranked twenty-first in the League."

Also, I can't stand how he says Dube. "Doo-BAAAYY"

Its time for Treliving to go. Hiring Ward was the last straw, we need new leadership.
