Well, that was boring and brutal.
Here's hoping that Ward hands out the Second Period Purple Gatorade or whatever the heck he does that usually wakes the Flames up for the second.
Thank God for Markstrom.

I mean why change what’s been working vs the Canucks? Suck ass in the first period, play decidedly mediocre in the 2nd, then play like Tampa Bay in the 3rd.

I don't think anyone is "ok" with it. They're just saying the shots are whack. Pretty meh period, but not 20-3 shot advantage meh. More of an 11-3...

Thank you Markstrom... again <3
Now rip their hearts out by scoring on this PP for an undeserved lead

To be fair the real shots were probably 11-4.
Bad last few minutes, but it wasn't awful before that. Defense had things locked down until the last quarter of the period.

Awful 1st period from the Flames...again. Hopefully they got that crap out of their system now and will finally show up for the 2nd and take advantage of this PP.

I actually thought we had the best chances in that period.

For all the Vancouver shots how many dangerous chances? Maybe 2 or 3? A lot of perimeter shots.
Not great first but better than last game.

I’ll never understand why Ward throws the 4th line out for so many D zone starts.

Yeah I didn't think the shot totals were indicative of the chances at all.
Vancouver is super desperate and threw everything at the net. The Flames had a lot of close chances that didn't result in a shot on goal.
That pass by Valimaki at the end of the period on the delayed penalty though... wow.

Shot clock is very misleading.
Shot Attempts: 30-11
Shots: 20-3
Scoring Chances: 11-9
High Danger: 3-4
Canucks just throwing a lot of low danger pucks at the net.

Lol. What do your eyes tell you? They’re taking blows behind the woodshed right now. Gio: brutal. Tkachuk: still brutal. This team is in trouble. They look awful.

Because they are an official NHL stat and shot counters replay shots to determine accuracy. But that is not happening tonight

The way they advertise these shows is hilarious. Critics are always "raving"! It's like no cop show ever made! So hilariously over the top.
Just once, I'd like him to say, "look, you're paying for them to make this. You might as well watch it."

Playing desperate teams is never easy. It's not surprising that the Canucks threw everything they could at the net in the hope for an early goal. They need something, anything.
Yet, the actual scoring chances in that period appeared to be pretty even, despite the crazy disparity in shots on net.
Honestly, a good road period against a bad team. They were tight defensively and didn't give up any ten bell chances in close. They generated on the counter attack okay.
The one thing I didn't like was the faceoffs. They got killed, which resulted in the possession and momentum problems.
