Burke: "I finally got Sidney Crosby"
Burke the next day: "Let's trade Sidney Crosby"

Doubt it.

Also, how weird would it be for Crosby to say to Burke & Hextall, "use me to rebuild this team"

Just odd all around.

Likely not, as other teams likely offer Seattle more to take on unwanted contracts.

Seattle will have no problem taking on decent players with cap hits if they want to, if the last draft is any indication.

IIRC, Fleury was moved with a 2nd round pick, and he became their regular goalie.

But don’t you think he’s concerned about his legacy!? Of course his top priority would be to set up the penguins for future success.... right!?

Especially after their Murray over MAF call, which probably cost the another cup.
Stupidest take I’ve heard on TV.

Crosby and Malkin are still better than any player on the Flames. I think the Pens can be contenders if they win a few trades and get a little younger supporting cast

With the way POJ and Marino are playing, it releases pressure off of Letang and Dumoulin.

The goaltending looks to be the Pens’ biggest problem. Maybe Rittich would somewhat be of use because much like Jarry they both play better when they are not just handed the starting role.

Or even land a decent free agent. Crosby’s contract is bargain bin, there is no reason to assume they can’t win another cup in my opinion.

Lindholm: 14pts
Gaudreau: 14pts
Monahan: 11pts

Crosby: 10pts
Malkin: 7pts

Full respect to Crosby even today but I think it would be ignorant to suggest that they're immune to the effects of time and wear at their respective ages.

Would you rather have Crosby and Malkin going into the 2021 playoffs or Johnny and Monny?

If that was an indication of anything it may be a point. Have you watched a pens game? He hasn’t lost a step at all. They also don’t have near the supporting cast the Flames do.

For the 2021 playoffs? Crosby and Malkin.

For 2021 yes.

Beyond that? Well I'd take Crosby over any one here for the next 3 years.

But those two are absolutely not at the level they once were.

They had a lot of roster filler even when they were vying for championships. That's how good they were.

And also why McDavid will never compare.

Ooooh. That's a tough one actually. On one hand, goal scoring is he hardest thing to do. On the other hand, with Johnny's refocus this year and the fact that we already have a Laine lite in Monahan, I'm not sure adding another shooter makes a whole lot of sense, though it is Laine. Also, something about Laine seems a bit off.

With Gaudreau, I would think management and Gaudreau would have talked about his future with the club and certainly know at this time what that is. Tkachuk on the other hand, I don’t feel like he’s going to stick around... Tkachuk for Laine straight up might work for both players and teams.

Why do people assume this, in regards to Tkachuk?
Is it just because he’s American, or have I missed something

If he keeps up this poor play that he's started the season with it may be a moot point.

All that said, Tkachuk is the exact perfect example of a guy who has limited skating ability and will fall off a cliff hard right around age 30. and he is a prime example of a guy you likely don't want to be owing a huge amount of money into his mid 30s

Just a feeling really, took an expensive bridge, going to take huge money to qualify, American for sure.... He doesn’t seem part of any particular group/clique on the team, girlfriend? So many unknowns

That's a legitimate concern, I'd give Tkachuk one more big contract and trade him before he hits 30. I think at some point Matthew and Brady would like to play together so they will probably choose the path that takes them to UFA quickest.
