Trump spent two months lying about the election, that it was stolen, that there was massive fraud. He held a rally during the tabulation of the electoral college and told the people there to march to the Capitol. You can't yell fire in a crowded movie theater and then play dumb when you're arrested for causing a stampede.

The Mob have said time and time again they thought they were there under the presidents orders.
Not some random crazy person reading into a few quotes from Trump, but an entire Mob of people.
Criminal blame for Trump for this specific issue? I agree, no
Conviction of impeachment? Hell ya.
Edit: I am kind of piling on, after posting this I see I am the 3rd person to respond to you. Sorry for that, point is made by others as well.

The election results were still pretty fresh at that point and being resolved still, so why wasn't there better security considering how high tensions were?

Would they have marched on the capital if Trump had not had a rally blocks away on the day and at the time senators were meeting? Would they have marched on the capital if Trump had not lied to them about the election being stolen? Would they have fought their way into the building if Trump had not said, "if you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore"?
I could go on and on, but yeah, objectively speaking, Trump whipped up a crowd and unleashed them on the capital by literally telling them to walk over to the capital to stop the steal. C'mon. That's just fact...don't be weird.

Wait what?
The election was in what Nov and this happened in what Jan?
The only reason the results where "pretty fresh" is because Trump and many GOP #######s we spreading propaganda and lies about the integrity of the election.
This #### rest at Trumps feet and those in the GOP that parroted the same lies.

The election was over, Trump lost and it was obvious within a few days of November 3rd. Numerous court cases that had no merit and two months went by before the EC vote in the Senate. This apologist routine is pathetic.

Trump could piss on the constitution in front of a national audience and these clowns would find an excuse to give him a pass.

oh please. The guy lied to these people and stoked the fire for months. There's footage of people at the riot reading his latest tweets over a megaphone, there's footage of people at the riot stating that Trump/Hawley/Cruz want them to do this. This riot wasn't some spur of the moment by people that got carried away, this was the result of months and months of spreading lies and anger.

I’m really not sure how you could “over dramatize” what went down that day. The only people who have made this a partisan issue are those who think it was no big deal. Would have been easy to wipe your hands of that insanity and move on with whatever your political beliefs are.

A lot of these protestors are facing charges so we'll see how many claim Trump told them to do it and if that will be a legit defense for their actions.

I’m sure most would agree they should be held accountable. But that doesn’t clear Trump from any wrong doing.

You're conflating two completely separate matters.
The individual culpability of Trump in inciting a riot and sedition is not at all affected by the individual culpability of the protestors for any of the numerous crimes they committed. And testifying that they were incited by Trump will not protect any of the criminals from facing the penalties for their crimes, but may entitle them to less harsh judgement for assisting the investigation into the higher crimes Trump undoubtedly committed.

I'm pretty sure most of the free world rejected the "just following orders" defense. I think around 1946...

This is a classic bait-and-switch attempt to move the goal posts if I ever saw one. What the hell does the level of security at the Capitol have to do with Trump's culpability for the violence committed there? This is akin to the "she was asking for it" defense in sexual assault cases.

Boy, you guys are the easiest group of people to troll. Why take the bait? Especially from a brand new poster. You all should know better.

It’s literally the basis of the debate happening right now. The poster didn’t claim aliens are responsible. I don’t care if the comments were made in good faith or not, they’re being parroted everywhere.

Not moving the goal posts at all, the security issue is under investigation and people have been fired. Now, if Trump had anything to do with that than yes he should be charged for that. At that point it was still a rally/protest even though you can question the motive but still a protest.
Why wasn't there better security there considering everything that had happened up to that point and how polarized everything was still from the campaign.
Trump has said and tweeted a lot of things and there absolutely should have been better security, it's really surprising to me to be honest even inside the capital building. I get the US is a free country but this almost seems like a case of being tone deaf and not reading the room so to say.

security issues have nothing to do with the question if Trump should be held accountable for inciting a riot.
