Someday he'll be sitting in the old folks home bouncing his grandkids on his knee and waxing poetically about the game where he shut out Draisaitl and McDavid. Well until he got pulled for sucking so large.

So against anybody but Ottawa, Oilers are 4-7-0

Flames are 6-5-1

Not saying the Ottawa games are guarantees, but the Flames to Oilers differential of those records are much more indicative of how things will look once Calgary gets its Ottawa games in.

So its late in the game up by one, I'm a player looking at that empty net, maybe I'll get a chance to get a point or a goal so the coach will know I'm alive even though I'm not named Connor or Leon. I see Coach Tippet looking in my direction I start standing up, a quiver of excitement goes through my legs. I hear the call "Draisaitl, McDavid get out there and get your points, everyone else, cheer em on.

"F that guy" I say to myself "I'm pooping in his luggage when he's not looking". I quickly pull out my cellphone and bring up my skip the dishes app. Taco Time delivers.

Over a typical 82 game season, he would be on a 20g/20a pace. I know there is still a long way to go, but if he keeps that up, it would be amazing to see.

Meh, McLellan rode them like horses too.

Besides Oiler coaches knowing that these guys are a unique talent, I’m fairly certain the coaches in that organization past and present have their edict from higher up in the organization to make sure that those two have the spotlight on them every night, at any cost and however ridiculous to the team concept.

Be it padding points or taking 6 minute shifts, if the media in the league league are talking at or marvelling at Oiler players like that, Lowe can have his ego fed and validated around the league by having two such players that wisp sepia toned memories for fans, back to Messier and Gretzky.

Similarly, Hall as a top player, was pumped up by McT and Lowe as being bigger than the team, and as a result had no respect of authority for the coach, and the when clashing with the coach (in the Flames game where he sprayed water, and am sure many times behind the scenes) he won the organizational battle over Eakins. Which leads to more instability with coaches, further players agents and coaches avoiding the Oilers, Oilers having to over pay to attract average talent, and then when the cap runs dry, backfilling with AHL talent and missing the playoffs and the promise of another high draft pick.

Oil fans and media celebrating the team racking up points against Ottawa has a definite Kramer in Karate class vibe. "Best in the class Jerry, Im dominating."

I also got a kick out of the announcer who dropped the whole Oilers are real because they can hang with the Leafs who are leading the division. Oilers are responsible for 2 of the Leafs' 3 losses on the season (one in OT).

I can't wait until the end of the season, as the Oilers fall back, and the fans are complaining about how they got screwed having to play good teams, when everyone else has games left against the Senators.

This sounds ridiculous, but this will 100% happen.

And the best part.... they are still paying him part of his salary.

With 27 points.... McDavid leads the league in points (16 EVP)... and he is still -1 in plus minus.... when I watch him.... he's lazy getting back, and that's a problem.

Draisaitl is second with 25 points (15 EVP).... and he's +11 in plus minus... now forgot about what team they play for.... with these stats and cap space... who would you take - and Leon is largely away from McDavid even strength these days as his plus minus indicates (no lazy back checking Connor drag).

I know Connor is fast.... but he's also reckless and lazy getting back. He's lucky that he's been rather bullet proof injury wise - I say that knowing about his hip and leg injuries, but it could be way worse and since he appears to recovers fast and has good timing with injuries (the last game of the season - with no playoffs)... he's been lucky... but this may not always be the case going forward.

Then there is the McDavid flu... a virus that strikes when you just don't feel like playing. JJ.

So.... I think Money Ball math would take Leon.

Bad news - he's 3rd highest scoring winger on the Flames (tied with Mangiapane, and Dube has one less but in 3 fewer games).

Lucic scores a point even strength every 19 minutes. Is not a minus player. Flames take 5.25 MM cap hit.

McDavid scores a point every 16 minutes even strength. Is a minus player. Oilers take 12.5 MM cap hit, on top of 0.75 MM for Lucic.

Lucic is clearly the better value player, and as noted above, is not even one of our top two scorers! If Brad accepted an offer of McDavid for the rest of Lucic, he would be fired.
