I think ownership and management put a lot of stock in the opinion of season ticket holders. While the fanbase is engaged and rabid, there is also a history of losing interest when things go badly.
I remember suggesting that the team properly rebuild by tearing it down and stop resisting a bottoming out. It pissed off a few people on here who are season ticket holders (me, not being one). There were many who said they would cancel their tickets rather than see a rebuild. Maybe it wasn't a huge sample size given the total number of season ticket holders, most of whom probably don't engage on here, but I did get the sense that it is a popular sentiment.
I can see how this attitude would influence ownership/management decisions, and not always for the best when it comes to building a contender.
Nope, this is incorrect, season ticket holders are generally more concerned about the long term health of the franchise. We have skin in the game.
Speaking of Jankowski, after 3 pts in 2 games he has zero points and has only had 7 shots on goal since then.
And his overall game play issues are continuing too.
He's 14th for forwards in both CF% and xGF% and dead last in what he generates in expected goals for.
Literally no offence.
He had a good start killing penalties but now has the worst expected goals against on the kill of any of the Pittsburgh forwards that are regulars shorthanded.
That glimmer of fear that he'd bounce back and be a productive NHLer may not flicker that long.

Joe Colborne 2.0

Hudler 2014-15 - 2.57 pts/60 5v5 (1st, and T8th overall with Mark stone behind Tampa's Triplets line, Rick Nash, Benn and Seguin, and Vladimir Tarasenko)
Much appreciated. So if Bennett could maintain anything around a 2.0 and Monny/Johnny around 2.1/2.3 respectively it would be an absolute home run. Looking forward to see what happens and to have a good data point to consider.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Nope, you are incorrect. The owners remember the Young Guns period, even if you don't. Thousands of those STHs who supposedly had skin in the game bailed. Many never came back.

Lol, so you are talking about former season ticket holders. That is completely irrelevant. The “if I had them” posters, always so talkative but non paying.

No, it's not irrelevant at all. The owners are afraid to create a bunch of new former season-ticket holders. The precedent is there. You don't speak for every STH, you know; their past actions speak for themselves.

Hailey Salvian from the Athletic did some legwork, and asked other beat writers which teams might show interest in Bennett. All of the usual teams (covered in this thread) were mentioned, and the one that popped out as a good fit by the local writer was Minnesota.
Quote:
He said the Wild could be interested in Bennett as an upgrade at the centre position. Minnesota last deployed Nick Bjugstad, Joel Eriksson Ek, Victor Rask, and Nick Bonino as their four centres. Which is certainly no Elias Lindholm, Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund for Bennett to overcome to be a top-line centre.
Ryan Hartman as a possible return, which is underwhelming, but if they also add an Adam Beckman or Conor Dewar, I'd go for it.

Gary Roberts who played with Nieuwendyk and Loob? He was 21 when that line first tasted success, then was only 22 when they won the cup and where he was a key player on the team. The next year he would score 39 goals, then two years later break the 50 goal barrier at age 25. When was he a bubble player?
You mean the guy who whined his way off our team because he couldn't sit on 3 hour chartered flights because of his neck?
He totally was a Bennett type player with better hockey IQ. 3rd line grinder who Makarov turned into a 50 goal scorer. Never even came close to that after he left the Flames.
EDIT: After chilling, Roberts was a 2nd line grinder and is 10 times the player that SamBennett will ever be.

1200+ games, 400+ goals, 900+ pts, 2500+ PIM
Top 120 all time NHL scoring
Top 20 all time PIM
"Whiney, 3rd line grinder."
Might be the single worst take in the history of CP.
Well done.

You can't compare Roberts to Bennett - If you do, it's the other way around. Bennett is nothing like Roberts and likely will never achieve what Roberts has done. Yeah, Roberts did have huge back issues after his prime years with the Flames. But when he came back and landed with the Pens, he was a vet who was instrumental for the Pens to win it all that year. So, whatever whining Roberts did, he gets a pass.

1. Roberts didn't whine his way off the team: Flames doctors advised him to never play again. He wanted to keep playing and they sent him packing to continue his career elsewhere.
2. Sam Bennett wishes his career comes close to Gary Roberts', even ignoring Roberts' higher-scoring seasons with the Flames.
If you excised the first seven years of Gary Roberts' career this is what the rest looked like:
Makarov was so good that even after he left the team Roberts was able to score 40+ goals because of him.
Not to mention when he did score 50+, he had more goals than Makarov had assists.
He had 41 the year after. He never hit 30 again after that. I'm just bitter that after being the ultimate warrior in that playoff series against the Canucks he forced a trade off this team because of the travel. Like seriously you can't sit in 1st class for an extra 120 mins?
But yeah it was a terrible comparing him to Bennett. He is 10 times the player than the low IQ derp.
Remember he was also supposed to name his 1st kid Sergei if he ever scored 50. Where's the integrety?..... lol
