It is almost like I had an unhealthy obsession with criticizing his every play and it affected how I looked at him as a player.
Oh I remember the dumb penalties. Yes, he could be frustrating because he would get sucked by the vets all the time. And I can relate to an unhealthy obsession with a player, so I feel your pain. I don't think the outcome will be the same with our obsessions.

So there's still big aspects of his game that are missing, and I suspect that's what the team sees.
I'm sorry, but it takes some serious mental gymnastics to blame Puljujarvi's goal on Bennett. He went in alone on the goalie, who made the save and kicked the puck forward, allowing the Oilers to take the puck up ice where they scored on the rush.

Blaming that on Bennett's 'total lack of awareness' is beyond ridiculous.

This conversation with Elliotte Friedman about Bennett happening right now on SN960 is very interesting:

· There are multiple teams interested in acquiring Bennett
· It is believed that the Flames are looking for a roster player in the same age group and a pick/prospect
· He is adamant that Jake Virtanen would not be nearly enough on his own
· Friedman thinks that Colorado was close to a deal, but then it was kiboshed because the team has been shut down.

Freidman mentioned Juolevi. Man, would that be a fascinating trade if it happened. Not sure it makes sense for either team though.

I bet it was Jost from Colorado. But it'd be awesome if it was Nichushkin. Who I believe with his complete defensive play would be a perfect finisher for the Monny line. And I think is a dollar for dollar trade too.

Jost is fascinating because he just got buried in Colorado depth. Could be a big benefactor to a change of scenery. But I'd hate to see Benny on an already beefy Colorado team.

Either player would be okay by me. See if you can get Sampo Ranta too.

Damn, make it happen then! (Signed, big Bennett fan).

I like how certain everyone is that it won’t be Virtanen. At least not alone. Burke said no chance on Saturday. Doesn’t bring his game and can’t play centre.

Would the Flames have to add to get Juolevi and Gaudette? How much?

Also, it'd be super cool to acquire Justin Barron too. I think he's gonna be a star in the NHL.

Friedman didn't say Juolevi was rumored in any Flames deal. He said he might available from the Canucks in a general sense.

Nichuskin would be interesting and would be that "size and skill" combo that this team desperately needs in the lineup. Worry about the Russian factor though and how much control Flames would have. UFA after 2022 so he could bolt.

Jost makes sense for both teams, he's pretty redundant in Colorado with all their centre depth and he still has a tonne of potential. Could be a perennial 50 point forward for the Flames but where would he play? He'd have to move to a RW position to get any quality ice time on this team. Plus he's another undersized forward. He was put on Covid list on Feb 3, isn't that when Bennett was healthy scratched? Looking back, it looks like maybe this was the deal. They probably were going to hold Bennett out till Jost clears the Covid list, but then Ryan got hurt and the Flames needed to ice the best line up.

Roberts definitely looked like a bubble player before they put him on that line. Mind you, he was still learning to play pro, but he honestly showed very few signs of the player that he would eventually become. He spent a lot of time looking like a big meathead who took dumb penalties while riding shotgun, but it was his good fortune that most of the Flames' LWs were pretty much the same.

This Canucks-Flames trade would interest me:

Virtanen+Gaudette+Juolevi
For
Bennett+Kylington

In terms of Jost for Bennett that would certainly be a deal that would be interesting to me. I think there is some sneaky potential there for him to be a top 6 forward.

Nich has carved out a pretty decent role being defensively responsible along with his speed and size...I just see an instant fit when it comes to the needs of Johnny and Monny. Like it's almost the exact recipe that Ferland brought outside of the defensive play. But Bennett can easily be all that too given a good chance.

It'll be interesting to see how all this goes down.

I'm not a fan of the idea of seeing Bennett in a Canucks uniform. Would have rather that Colorado option whatever it is.

FYI, Nichushkin already went back to Russia and has returned. 16/17 and 17/18 seasons.

Just looking up stats on the Avs, it's not like Jost, Compher, or Nichushkin are lighting it up either. They're pretty much the same stats as Bennett. So it could very well have been one of those guys for Bennett before the potential trade was kyboshed because of Covid protocols.

Nichushkin is one of the league's best pure defensive wingers.

Would make that debate over the 3 players in 2013 complete. Why not all three.
