Can't recall where I read Dermott/Kerfoot for Bennett. Maybe here? Not sure this adds a lot of smoke or necessarily points to a fire but its not the first time I've seen this suggestion.

THe Flames should never trade with Toronto for players - only draft picks. The Leaves’ players are always over-rated and the Flames brass seem to buy into the hype and lose - cases in point: the Gilmour/Macoun trade for a bag of pucks and the Phaneuf trade (I liked Stajan, but...).

I saw a Dermott+Kerfoot for Bennett+Kylington deal posted on Twitter. Still don’t like that considering the cap hit that Kerfoot brings.

Yep, never seems to end well does it. Fans might look back at the Phaneuf trade fondly as Stajan was beloved in the end but at the time it wasn't a great deal and could have been so much more had the rest of the league been engaged in trade talks.

Pretty sure Dermott is Toronto's "Halak, Ryder, and a 2nd"

I wouldn't mind taking Kerfoot+ for Bennett.

Truculent!

Engvall would be my target.
Dermott just hurt his knee a game or two ago.

To be fair, the comparison that was made was more about the two players’ development time than skills, or impact. Roberts spent a lot of time in the bottom 6, before breaking out into a scorer.

Thanks. I just saw some initial similarities to Roberts' play in his first couple of seasons and was just hoping he would develop the way Roberts did. In his first full season Roberts didn't score much and was second to Tim Hunter in penalty minutes. But he showed progressive development into a dominant player, while that's not been the case for Sam.

I can remember wondering what the hell Roberts was ever going to turn into during his first couple seasons. Bad penalties, suspect hockey IQ, thought he would be a bubble player at that time. He kind of drove me nuts but I didn't have a comment board to go to to complain lol.

Gary Roberts who played with Nieuwendyk and Loob? He was 21 when that line first tasted success, then was only 22 when they won the cup and where he was a key player on the team. The next year he would score 39 goals, then two years later break the 50 goal barrier at age 25. When was he a bubble player?

I never said he WAS a bubble player. I said he drove me a little bit nuts so I wondered if he would be more than that. I was quite clearly, happily and obviously wrong.
He was playing with pretty good players and 22 goals in that era isn't the same as now. He obviously played on an awesome team but he took a lot of dumb penalties and kind of drove ME nuts. In the end I was wrong and he became a favorite,
It is almost like I had an unhealthy obsession with criticizing his every play and it affected how I looked at him as a player.

In the games against the Leafs, I've been impressed with Mikheyev more. Plus he's a RW but he's also UFA after next season.
Honestly, other than Sandin or Robertson, there's nothing of interest from the Leafs.

Yea, there is nothing there from the Leafs, again his value is maximum at the trade deadline. At that point the Flames may end up going for picks in return. It would be no worse then what the Oilers gave up for Antonescu.

Wow I remember Roberts completely different, I LOVED HIM! As a young player and even more as he developed, but to each their own. Go Flames!!!!!
Anyways I don’t want this to turn into a Bennett/Roberts thread, back to trading Sam. The Toronto Dermott for Bennett rumours had better be untrue, that is not the trade the Flames need right now.

Yep, Flames could get a rental better than Sam and trade Sam for more picks than the rental cost
Bennett being an RFA and all
