dress a tougher 4th line incase the game got out of hand...ref called a penalty on the first hit of the game and took all that out of it so they rode the pine

The fact that Rinaldo and Froese played so little kind of furthers that point. Would you really want Gawdin to suit up, only to play 2 minutes?
It might be better to play the rookies against Ottawa or maybe Vancouver.
|
Rinaldo might have begged as well. He wants Kassian pretty bad.
The penalties, especially in the first when the 4th line plays more, kinda killed their time too.

For extra fun, watch Russell on Bennett’s goal.

Agree
Also Lucic is under appreciated and can be very effective when slotted well
I really liked his game tonight

And let's be honest here, which games this season did the Flames play well? One, the 3:0 win vs Canucks. All other games they were being outplayed for most, thank Marky for stealing some. They have been a huge disappointment, no?
|
The Flames are 7th in the NHL in shot attempt percentage and expected goal percentage. But they're way down at 17th in shooting percentage (and that ranking increased tonight).
They're getting a lot of chances... they just haven't been able to capitalize. They'll improve.

I swear his hockey IQ may be one of the highest on the team. Sometimes he just tries stuff that he used to be able to do and can’t any more, that’s all. He and Mangiapane are good together.

The Flames were the better team 5 v 5. The Oilers momentum in the 1st was propped up by 6 minutes of powerplay time. Their pressure at the end of the third was the result of having more skaters on the ice.
Meanwhile the Flames score 5 even strength goals.

I hope so. But it's hard to remain positive when the team comes out this flat every game. I believe that a good team needs a good top line so they can set the pace. Ours is crap because the main guy is too predictable and one dimensional.

I’d imagine that power play success goes up if you have several in a row, rather than the same number spread out over a game. By the third one, I fully expected a goal.
