Did you ever grab that Seiko? How did you like it?

I did...wearing it right now.

I really like it and I really like the NATO strap, which I didn't expect.

I can't articulate why I like it, though, other than it feels kind of special to have and I enjoy just looking at it. Believe it or not, I've never even looked at a more expensive watch up close as none of my friends are watch people. The Seiko 5 is officially the best watch I've ever taken a good look at hah.

I had to adjust the time five minutes back the other day. It seems to gain about five minutes per week. Not sure if that's particularly bad or good, but it doesn't bother me. I almost appreciate that it needs a bit of babysitting. Gives me something to fata with.

I also like that I have to switch between my smart watch and this one. I wear my smart watch for my workout when I first get up, then put this one on after my shower. Makes me feel like a big shot to have two watches.

Also, I thought some of the on-wrist pictures of watches looked kind of goofy as the watches look ginormous in photos. They look much better in real life and in the context of your whole arm/hand/body versus just zoomed in on a wrist. Feels cool to wear.

Nice! Congrats As long as you like it, who cares. How's the clicking on the bezel? Satisfying or not really? It's definitely nice to have an automatic watch. It's not as accurate as quartz, but my wife says she loves watch the smooth motions of the second hand. And yeah, most online pics don't do the watches justice. This is why a lot of watch people will gravitate towards nice watches in real life and ask if they can take a closer look.

5 minutes a week seems way off. That's nearly a minute a day. A brand new automatic watch shouldn't be more than a few seconds +/- a day. You should go get it looked at and see if they can get it adjusted or if they will swap you for a new one.

The bezel isn't that satisfying to spin TBH. It takes more force than I would have expected to spin, but the upshot is it is always centered and my coat/gloves/whatever don't spin it accidentally. No basis for comparison on how a better watch would spin because I've never spun one.

I'm going to set my watch perfectly right now, then make a calendar reminder in one week to see how far off the time is. If it's bad, I'll swap it out. Thanks for letting me know five minutes is too much...wasn't sure if that was acceptable or not.

Any tips on how to clean your watch? I'd like to DIY first and then a complete watch check once every 3-4 years.

Yeah my mechanical watch is +/- a few seconds a day. It should be adjustable since mine got more accurate after having it serviced a few years ago.

There's a couple specific Omega Speedmasters I'm interested in and Ebay seems to be the most common place to spot one, but I'm super apprehensive of buying there.

I'll poke around Watch U Seek and Rolex Forums; thanks for the advice.

Probably should be in the 5-7 second per day range I'd guess.
I don't know Seikos but I know most Rolexes and Omegas are about +/- 5.
The superlative chronometer certified I just got is +/- 2 seconds.

So I finished my week-long test and the watch is fast by four minutes over seven days. You figure that's bad enough for an exchange? Is it a price point thing (watch is $400 retail) and about as accurate as I should expect? Doesn't worry me either way, but if it's defective I'm probably better off handling this now while it's new versus in the future.

I'd take it in for exchange or warranty repair. Might as well take advantage of those things while you can.

Did you post a pic of the watch? I want to see it!

Check out Chrono24.com. I've bought two watches off there with good results.

I opted to go to an AD instead and picked up their last Speedmaster Professional 1861 which has now been discontinued.

I now understand why Speedmaster owners love these things so much; it's the perfect do anything watch. Absolutely love it.

My little collection

*Before anyone says it, yes I know the Speedy doesn't belong on a winder

Now I need to stop watching so many watch collector videos on Youtube, as I feel an expensive addiction brewing

Nice collection! What’s the one on the far right? Frederique Constant?

Baume & Mercier Capeland.
Doesn't get much wear now but I loved the look when I got it about 6 years back.
The blue alligator strap with a light silver dial chrono jumped out at me.
For the price, I still think Baume makes some great looking watches.

Can I get some recommendations on Omega repairs? Google seems to be suggesting that Swiss Watch Clinic has closed?

I took my Speedmaster Professional to Calgary Jewellery on 17th Ave and they sent it into Omega for me. Or are you looking for a local service?

How long did it take to get your watch back? Are you able to give a rough price on how much the service cost? I've been meaning to send in my Planet Ocean for service so it isn't stuck and neglected in the drawer.
