I mean, there is one play in the NHL where the refs literally turn a blind eye when one guy goes after another. And that's when a goalie gets run, whether intentional or not. You've got your biggest rival and their captian and best player makes a dangerous play and takes out your goalie and the reaction is....

In the old days if a guy came in on a lane like that the blueliner would step into the lane and drop hip low and murder him. Now its just stick checks. Can you imagine McDavid coming down on a in his prime Orr, McDavid's career would be over in a matter of hours.
