Froliks agent asked for his client to be traded if he was going to be continually scratched. After agent announcement Frolik was back with Backlund for rest of year.

If one of the top 6 was scratched then I can see why an explanation would be in order, but Bennett being scratched shouldn’t be scandalous.

You think scratching him is the controversy here?

I can’t decide either. The rando on Twitter with the bad take or the person who thought it should be posted here for some reason.

Maybe go ask her on her Twitter.
But all of Bennett, Leivo, Nordstrom, Simon have contributed pretty much nothing in the way of offense. Even Mangiapane’s 3 points in 10 are less than you would hope for

Time to lock it up. Looks like Bennett is in the lineup again. On the top line no less.
We shall have this Bennett fight another day.

Did he fire his agent or something?
Bennett with 4 G 3 A, all even strength, and benched the next game for showing up Ward

Honestly, if they are trying to trade him right now, "showcasing" him would be a big mistake because it will just hurt his value.

As always, Bennett on the RW on that line is just not a fit in my opinion. The problem is transition. If he passes the puck to the middle of the ice, there's no one to really carry it. Monahan's not much of a carrier, Gaudreau is on the opposite wing, and we don't even have Brodie anymore who used to help with controlled breakouts.
The other option is for Bennett to carry it. But when he carries it along the wing, he predictably runs out of space to operate and has to chip n chase to no avail.
I wish that, just once, this line would be tried with Bennett as the centre and Monahan as the RW. Monahan's got some good vision in a stationary setting (which is perfect for a winger - thing of how Tkachuk and Lucic hit their centres or rover D on the breakout) and Bennett is much more comfortable down the middle with room to wheel.

Why do you insist on making it so difficult....right off the bat!

Bennett’s role on this line is physicality on the forecheck to cause the defence to make mistakes.
He has to prove he has enough hockey sense to make/execute plays.
At a bare minimum he has to be useful.
His quotes about being a healthy scratch bother me.
He didn’t know why he wasn’t in the lineup?
He thinks they might be playing games?
What?
On what planet is this adequate player engagement?

I posted this last night in the PGT. I like what Burkie had to say about Bennett last night.
As Burke said tonight, "If you want to be traded, be tradeable!". I think Bennett took a step to being more tradeable with his performance last night.
I also enjoyed Burke saying Virtanen isn't the player that Bennett is, effectively shooting down the 1 for 1 trade rumour that's been floating around.

Agents that make public announcements about their clients wanting a trade are patently dumb. There are only 30 other GM's, whose cell phones are on your speed dial. Of the 30 other teams, only a handful might need your client added to their roster and have a trade possibility benefiting your client's team. If you are ANY good at your job, keep it quiet, make your calls back and forth, try to assist a trade, plant a thought of a trade possibility in other GM's heads. At best, you'll find a trade. At worst, you'd get your client's GM aware of your player's being unhappy seriously enough. Why on earth would you wanna tell it to a TV commentator??? There is literally nothing good that will come out of it for your player. What an idiot.

Always curious how guys manage to play with a guy who has requested a trade. He's basically saying he doesn't want to play with this club anymore and wants out, how do you lace up with him and pretend to have chemistry? Especially so when pulling that move is going to cost the club big (relative) in trade value now that they have no leverage and are effectively distressed sellers.
Horrible position to put everyone in, such a rookie move by Bennett & his reps. Trel is basically forced to keep playing him to make him at all saleable.

I think these situations vary depending on the type of player. Alex Semin would be viewed differently by his teammates than Bennett in my opinion. I think Bennett is a well respected guy in the room and his teammates probably understand his situation, which is not getting a good opportunity despite being the best forward in the playoffs. They seemed pretty pumped when he scored last night.
I’m hopeful that Bennett clicks with 13 and 23 and he actually remains a Flame. This is hopeful thinking but I like Bennett and what he brings to the team.

Treliving wants a physical presence with some size, like a Zucker, Kadri, Mark Stone or a Josh Anderson on Calgary's top two lines, maybe the Flames already had that player all along in one Sam Bennett.
