Lol nah. She has asked me to never show her anything from this site anymore. The stuff that all the rest of you jerk post has turned her off.

We're still assuming that's unique to Bennett? Simon practicing with the taxi squad doesn't count, but since it's Bennett this time, now it's an issue?

Ya, it's not that they sat him. It's how they did it. Unprofessional.
Telling a regular player why he is being sat is not special treatment. It's the norm because that's when you as coach can point out the problems in ones game and what they should work on.
Just because the guy asked for a trade doesn't mean we should treat him like garbage.
But we havent heard Ward's side of the story so maybe there is something else to it that Sam is not letting on.

Simon is a replacement value player that signed for near league minimum to get a chance to play. He was signed with the understanding that he'd be competing for the 12th spot.
Sam Bennett has been a regular here for 6 years.
Shouldn't matter though. The coach should swallow his pride and gave him a heads up, even if it's just a text.

It's fine to support a player but to blame literally everyone else for his struggles and take every little day to day thing as a slight against him is just odd fanboyism.
I like Bennett, I wish him the best wherever he ends up going, but he doesn't require special treatment
|
Haha.
I remember people going apoplectic when Dustin Boyd was traded. Kieth Aulie anyone??
In all likelihood, no organization will have wanted Sam Bennett to succeed more than the Calgary Flames. It won't surprise me in the least that after Sam's dealt this could start a string of him getting bounced around the league for the remainder of his career.

Couldn't it be possible that things have happened behind the scenes that we fans are unaware of? In fact, I'm quite certain that we don't have all the facts here. So maybe we should watch and see how this all shakes out. Life is short.

Keep hearing the Ducks as a team that has liked Bennett for a while and while Rackell makes a lot of sense for his fit in the top 6 and he is signed to a good deal for 2 more years.
If the Ducks are rebuilding I wonder if the Flames could use Bennett to start a package to acquire Getzlaf?
1st, Bennett, Ryan for Getzlaf $3M retained.
Try bringing in a big name veteran to bring leadership, experience, and size to the lineup. He might not want to waive and especially if it means leaving the States but that might be the type of player the Flames need?

This team trading their 1st - especially in a deal returning soon to be 36 year old Ryan Getzlaf, is insane.

Getzlaf might just be what the doctor ordered for this team and I know he has history with this city, but I'm not sure he would be willing to leave warm Anaheim to come here for a day like today.

I was just listening to Craig Button rip Sam Bennett on That's Hockey. He did not mince words. "If he doesn't know why he's not playing, there is a bigger problem there. I'll tell him why he's not playing, he is not good enough and Calgary has been living with that Sam Bennett for much too long. Get real."

This has the feeling of one of those seasons where everything just goes off the rails.

The timing of benching Bennett was very poor, especially considering other players were probably deserving. The guys in that locker room are friends of Sam's, As it stands, Ward now runs the risk of losing the room even if Sam is traded.

Would love to see Getzlaff here. What a great mentor for Tkachuk and the other young guys. Nothing against Gio, but a guy like Getzlaff seems like he wouldn't put up with any BS or lazy efforts.

I mean he's not wrong.
I'm just trying to comprehend what message scratching him last game and then putting him on the 4th line next game really accomplishes.
Lievo and Simon have both done absolutely nothing. I don't want to defend Bennett, but what have those two shown to keep those spots?
If we're either scratching or playing Bennett on the 4th line, and that's the plan going forward, then ya trade him for whatever because you're also just diminishing his value as we go here.

Leivo has looked fine. Simon on the other hand, I don’t see why he draws in over Bennett.

Wasn’t Simon scratched for a bunch of games prior? That said I would be happy if Simon never played in a flames uniform again. He brings absolutely nothing to the game.
