He wasn't demoted to the taxi squad, he just practiced with them

Instead of skating with the NHL roster yesterday, he was skated with the taxi squad. No practice/no warm up, nothing. He skated with Stone, Mackey etc.

I gather when he was scratched he practiced with the taxi squad and not the regular roster. I don't know how it all works, given Ryan has been taxied a fair bit.

With Bennett’s salary, of course he gets moved to the taxi squad if he’s not playing. It gives the team cap space. Same way they put Ryan on the taxi squad on non-game days. Hardly a nefarious act.

Uhhh. Bennett has asked for a trade. Id say that was the first step in ending the professional relationship between Sam and the team.

So a player asks for a trade, has one assist in 9 games and gets scratched. How is this surprising?
I see people saying that Lucic or Nordstrom should be scratched. Sure, maybe. But they haven't asked for a trade. Man I've had enough of this Bennett business. Ship his butt out of here.

Nope. Not how that works. Bennett would have to be waived for that to happen, like how Ryan was. He was not on the Taxi squad, he was skated with them.

He'd have to go through waivers to go on the taxi squad. He's not on the taxi squad, he just practiced with them

I've said a few times - different players need different treatment to improve their game. I don't think Lucic benefits from being scratched - in fact the opposite. Same with Backlund. Nordstrom I don't know.

Asking for a trade is part of the professional world of hockey. It's well within his rights to ask, just like it's well within the team's rights to not trade him.
Dubois asked for a trade and kept playing. Lots of players have gone through that.

I'm a fan of coach feedback but if Sam expects a special sit down with the coach for every decision, he's got some growing up to do.
This is professional sports. If the coach decides to scratch a player, the player knows why. It's because they sucked. More detail is great but isn't always a priority on game day.

I think Gio and probably Lucic needed to show some veteran leadership and (privately) take a stand against Ward for their teammates. I have no doubt that Benny has the respect of his teammates even when the business of hockey requires people to move on. Benny is a teammate and a pro. Until he is moved, he is part of their team

That ended up being Gulutzan's downfall, he listened to the leadership in the locker room too much rather than make his own coaching decisions. That's why we kept seeing Elliott in the playoffs even though it was obvious to everyone else not to start him

He better not say anything, he plays like a replacement level player himself.

Scratching a 4th liner is part of the professional world of hockey. It's well within his coaches right to sit him when hes not performing even if he is the seemingly legendary Sam Bennett.
Simon has been a healthy scratch like 4 times this year. Lots of players have gone through that.

It sort of does, in the NHL.

Simon wasn't skated with the taxi squad.
I'd also hope that we have a coaching staff that communicates with players who are scratched, because if we don't they should all be fired.
And to be fair, 4th line players are 1st line players when you play for Geoff Ward.
