Is he? When did Matthew Stafford suddenly become a top end QB again? Most comments about him since Calvin Johnson left is that he's the king of stat padding late in games when it doesn't matter.

Honestly I don't see him as that big of an improvement on Goff, and I would say it's not enough to justify two more first round picks, and a third rounder.

Over the last three seasons

Goff:

47 Games Started
31-16 Record

74 TDS
41 Interceptions
13278 Yards

QBR:
2018: 63.6
2019: 50.6
2020: 58.5

Stafford:

40 Games Started
14-25-1

66 TDs
26 Interceptions
10360 Yards

QBR:
2018: 51.3
2019: 71.3
2020: 68.5

I know Detroit is a tire fire but it's still a QB driven league, and good QBs can carry teams to victory in the NFL. I'm not sure the guy with the 14-25-1 record over the last three seasons is going to be a savior anywhere.

I like your post, but I think the picks are compensation for taking on Goff's salary.

But that's it, every other QB is mobile to a degree. Some are more mobile than others, most are just good enough athletes to get out of the pocket and get a first down.
And I'm saying you don't.

This was the only way they were going to get a team to take Goff's contract off their hands. I don't know what happened to Goff but he looked less than serviceable at times for the Rams this season so I do think Stafford is a big upgrade. He can make throws from the pocket Goff simply couldn't but Stafford isn't perfect and now has to shake the loser stink which I think he will do under McVay.

I would think if Carr can really net you two firsts that even if you can't get Deshaun it's still worth it because Mariota wouldn't be appreciably worse than Carr and you'd have future ammo for another QB.

Carr is considerably better than Mariota. I would be shocked if Carr could bring back a 1st round pick in return let alone two of them. I know the Patriots have coveted him for some time but they are too shrewd to give up that kind of draft capital.

How can that be true though? Mariota has a better record as a starter than Carr does.

This is a pretty wild stat and shows just how hard it is to hit on QBs.

Former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer was moved to a hospice facility near his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday because of complications from Alzheimer's disease, his family said Wednesday in a statement given to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

He is listed in stable condition.

"As a family we are surrounding him with love," his wife, Pat, said in a statement, also speaking on behalf of the couple's children, Kristin and Brian, "and are soaking up the prayers and support from all those he impacted through his incredible life. In the way he taught us all, we are putting one foot in front of the other ... one play at a time."

He will always be remembered for Marty Ball but the guy was a hell of a regular season head coach. For whatever reason he could not deviate from his regular season philosophy in the playoffs against opposition pulling out all the stops to win.

Some scuttlebutt online yesterday that Andrew Luck might be considering coming out of retirement and returning to the Colts. Rumour is super unverified but it's out there. McAfee was talking about it on his show yesterday.

now that they have a good team and a strong O-Line, would be a solid move. Luck seems like a likeable guy.

The source of the rumour is apparently a friend's wife's friend's husband. So I'm not sure I'd get too excited if I were a Colts fan.

Irsay has come out and said Luck is "more retired now then last year" so seems like a hope of Colts fans more than a likely scenario. Luck is going to make a lot of money off the field so I do think he's done.

Apparently the Bears have the best offer on the table.

Lol, apparently the offer is 2 1sts + a player. If this happens, Pace might be dumber than O'Brien.

I know Rube already mentioned it, but the dial tone comment specifically cracked me up hahaha. Who would pay that?? Give me Fitzmagic at that point, I'll keep the firsts, thanks..

I have no doubt it'll be a 1st + X. Heck, even Sam frigging Bradford got a 1st and a 4th. All depends on the X ... if the X is another 1st, then that's just idiotic. But QB-needy teams get desperate, so who knows.
