Are really asking this? How beneficial is it to have a grumpy player on the team? Sam Bennett has to be traded and soon. Or Treliving is gone. On ice results are bad enough, player drama would spell a quick end to Treliving.

Why would BT get in trouble because a disgruntled player is causing drama? What makes you even think Bennett is such a dbag? How do you know he's not a professional? If he's such a problem child and in your words, GMs know all about him, who is going to trade for a prima donna 3rd/4th liiner?

Envious of Sam wanting out honestly, as much as I wish he'd remain a Flame I feel he'll do better elsewhere with a new opportunity and get away from this train wreck of an organization for the last 2 decades.
This team needs an enema and its tarts at the top down.
Can we trade the Coach too?

What a hilarious take. So the team is playing bad because Bennett requested a trade? If a trade doesn’t happen soon the GM is fired? How do you think this is even a reality?

I guess we will see. The history of NHL general managers is not littered with GMs whose careers were undone by protracted trade-disputes with disgruntled players. And it's not like this is anything new, either. Yzerman survived Drouin. Sakic survived Duchene. Sam Bennett has nowhere near the impact as these players. I am fairly sure Treliving will come out of this okay.

Read again, you are confused.
I am saying that Treliving is already on thin ice because the team looks like crap. And adding player drama would put another strike against him. Like Craig Button.

Said it before - it could well be that they figured he needed to see a game from above, which could be true for him (and not for others like, say, Lucic).

Right now it's probably a welcome distraction.
Without Bennett's trade request, what would the media be focusing on? How much of a garbage team this is? The bafflingly stupid coaching decisions? First line player Joakim Nordstrom?
To me, Tree is getting bailed out by any media "circus" this creates, just like how his roster last year got the excuse of the Peters disaster.
Year after year the results are middling if not poor, and the distractions and excuse-making comes to the rescue.

Main point you guys are missing is that Sam Bennet trade value is too insignificant. This isnt a Lindros type asset that you have to get a ransom for. Sam Bennett is probably fetching you a 2nd rounder at best. If you only get offered a 3rd you take it. 2nd to 3rd pick is just not enough of a difference to have this drama hanging over the team.

I guess what confused me is the fact Treliving is on thin ice. Has this been reported anywhere or is this just an assumption?

I guess where we disagree then is in how much drama and chaos this is actually festering. I am guessing not nearly as much as you have manufactured in your imagination.

Whose words? Mine?
Did you skip reading lessons?
Having a player on the roster that asked for a trade is not a good team dynamic. Does anyone disagree with that?
This happens all the time across the league. When it happens GMs trade these guys away.

There is no drama TODAY putz. Did I say there was? Can you people stop making dumb assumptions?
If Sam Bennett is not gone by end of February, there will be drama. Every pre game and post game pressers will be asking about it.

Yes, but with some frequency GMs also bide their time until they can land a palatable deal. You are making this out to be a much bigger deal than it actually is.

I feel like the GM should be on thin ice because:
- His best year was his first year, where he won 1 playoff series. Since then, 0 playoff series victories
- He's hired 3 dud head coaches
- It took him 7 years to find a starting goalie
- He's not made a worthwhile trade in 3 years
- He's wasted assets chasing incredibly poor depth players, including but not limited to Travis Hamonic, Brian Elliott, Curtis Lazar, Mike Smith, Derek Forbort and so on
- He has signed some of the worst free agent contracts that have been handed out league-wide during his time as a GM (Brouwer, Neal), and then traded Neal for an arguably worse contract in Milan Lucic
- This team is 10 games into the season and it looks like all the problems that have existed for years are already here and making their impact on the season

If they were going to make him a healthy scratch, why last night against a physical team like the Jets? His style of play made more sense to have on the ice last night and to bench on Saturday if it's just sending a message.
I wonder if this makes sense to Bennett and his teammates, because it's a confusing situation from the outside.

This happens all the time across the league and GMs eventually trade these guys away. Textcritic just gave you examples of several that took months to sort out.
If Bennett is a pro (which I think he is), he will play hard, not pout and will get traded, eventually.

You are a piece of work lol. Did I say that?
How about 6 years of no playoff success? How about getting their crap kicked in in every playoff series except the one that we played an even softer and very old Vancouver team?
Ya, a road trip did it LOL
