I don't know how classy it is... I mean, it's not like he needs an extra 8 million now. He's still getting the same amount of money, it's just over a few years now instead of a lump sum. Saving cap room is a smart business move for him as at the end of the day, if they get another superbowl, it'll increase his paycheque in the long run.

He agreed to restructure the roster bonus into a signing bonus and he still gets the same sum of money over four years. He did accomodate the team, but not really at his own expense?

Well most players who've made a lot of money will do this type of thing so long as the team reinvests the money in player personell. But in a game like Football one guy can only do so much so giving the team that extra cap space can do a lot to keep him on a winning team. I don't imagine at this point in his life that Manning is interested in collecting a few extra dollars for himself if it means he's on a 6-10 team. Unless something goes horribly wrong I doubt he'll ever play for another losing team in his career.

How so? It is a classy move Peyton is a leader and has shown to the team he will step up and make the right move to help the team sign more players.

I don't think that it is really that classy of a move. Like was stated before. He is still going to get that money. Just not in one lump sum this season. It is a no brainer for him to restructure the contract and it is very rare that a player who is going to recieve a large roster bonus ever really gets it. Either the player is released as a cap casualty. Or in a case like Elway or Manning. The contract is restructured.

I disagree, anytime a player can help to free up 8M in cap space its a huge move for the team. Guys like Brady, Elway and Manning understand the importance of bringing in talent or keeping talent.

In Elway's case he did this more than once (guy is the ultimate Role Model). I remember reading about Elway he would go to the organization and say if you sign this player I will restructure my contract. The guy was there to win.

I guess the other way to look at it; why is more players not doing this type of move?

Your missing the point. He is going to get that money anyways. It is in his best interest that he restructure the contract. He has nothing to lose. And plenty to gain.

I was kidding dude, its just a thing you say. I don't think Peyton sucks, the guy is gonna be a legend when all is said and done, I just don't like him. Better choice of words probably would have gone over better.

Guys restructrure their contracts all the time.

Also, because of the size of his contract Peyton has to be by far and away the best player on the team because they cant sign anyone significant for defensive help.

The extra 10 mil maybe brings in a mid range lineman and allows the colts to add 1y extensions to some guys contracts.

I am not missing the point, I understand he is getting the money. As did Elway and so did every other player who restructured their contract.

The key is they did restructure and it does help the team.

How in the world does this make Peyton classy? It is basically paper shuffling - he is not deferring any money, nor is he changing the guaranteed amount of the contract. The only time a player would not do this is if he was trying to leverage it into an extension or pay increase, which is why players and teams get these types of bonuses inserted in contracts.

Yeah. He helped out his team which in turn helps himself out. There is nothing out of the ordinary here. But I guess some people want to make him out to be a saint for taking $8 million as a signing bonus instead of taking it in the form of a roster bonus. What player woudn't do it? Unless they wanted to be released?
