I don’t think Bennett has played poorly enough to warrant a scratch over the likes of Nordstrom and Leivo, but then again Travis Konecny was a healthy scratch a few days ago and he was a PPG player so what do I know?

I'd like to see who they are using as comparables. Especially the 12 that turned into top 6 forwards.

Bennett hasn't been good, but he hasn't been nearly as bad as 3 or 4 other players that seem to be directly responsible for a goal against per game.

Why should Bennett continuously get a free pass to play every night when he isn't getting the job done? The Flames are going nowhere if they don't get contributions from their bottom 6 beyond Backlund.
Guys like Bennett, Lucic, Ryan need to step up and start chipping in. What have they given the Flames aside from being completely overmatched whenever on the ice this year? 5 points combined while counting for roughly $9 million against the cap?
That kind of dough comes with expectations that you should be at least chipping in every few games with something more than not taking penalties or winning a few draws.

I agree, but not in Sam's case. Benching him for the first time in his career raises red flags and lowers his trade value.
Can't think of worse timing to sit someone for performance. Performance that's not out of norm, he never was a good regular season player so what would Ward expect?
This smells of a trade.

I'm not giving Bennett a free pass. Simply that whoever they are putting in to replace him will likely be worse. We had players who played significantly worse last game that haven't been scratched yet this season that deserve to sit in his stead.

I look forward to getting caved in again in the playoffs again and people cant figure out why Johnny and Mony went from PPG regular season players to 0.3 in the post season.

Looking around at teams that may want Bennett, the player I'd love the Flames to get is Rickard Rakell.
He still has 25-30 goal seasons in him, just hasn't had a decent C since Getzlaf washed up.

Sam is a perfect 4th line banger for a playoff battle. He is not leaving because Treliving or fans don't see it that way. He is leaving because he himself doesn't see it.
He will be missed here. But it's his call.
