I have personally not found any aspect of Bennett's skillet "tantalizing" since he played Juniour. I might be totally off base here. But it seems like the Leafs (or at least people who talk about the Leafs) have soured on Liljegren. If this is the case and if the Leafs are interested in Bennett, could a Bennett for Liljegren trade make sense? My understanding is Liljegren wouldn’t need to be protected in expansion a la Valimaki (https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...pansion-draft/). Also, Liljegren is right-handed.

You don’t do due diligence on this guy. They already didn’t do their due diligence on Peters. I’m hoping this tweet from McKenzie is not true.

I won’t go as extreme as some who say they will stop cheering for the flames but I will definitely be on the fire Treliving bandwagon if he makes a trade for this scumbag.

"Checked in" suggests that there are no serious talks taking place, but I wonder what it means in this context. Could it have to do with just getting information about the situation with no intent on making a deal? Is it just general information gathering? I bet this could mean several things beyond trade discussions.

Asking for details about the situation could be "checking in." It doesn't have to mean there was ever any legitimate interest in acquiring the player.

That would be so Treliving. Need a forward, trade for a defenseman. Need scoring help, trade for a defenseman. We trade for a defenseman right now, I’m going to be calling for Tre’s head, and hope the rest of the board will do the same.
