Jets 3 Flames 2
Game Takes: Jets 3 Flames 2
- Flames and Rittich start slowly
- good push in the third comes close to sending the game to overtime.
- Tkachuk scores two despite his line struggling again
- Gaudreau extends point streak to start the season to nine games

I thought the fortress pairing was strong again. One of the top 3 stories for the club so far, along with Markstrom and Gaudreau/Monahan resurgence.
Speaking of, I’m not so ready to concede Lindholm/Tkachuk as the “1st line”.

Very minor critique but the Flames haven't played the Habs since Saturday as the last two game takes have Habs in special teams.

Hockey Stats Card
had Gio and Andersson both having good games and the other 4-D having poor games.
Tkachuk had a good game but had a game high xGA
The second game in a row where the Jet goalie was significantly better than the Flames goalie according to this web site.
Interesting, as who would of thought, Logan Stanley as the Jets #6 has a similar Average Game score of .32 to Valimaki .25
10 games ago Valimaki was a Calder candidate and Stanley was going to be fortunate to be on the Jets taxi squad and likely AHL. Stanley is 5 months older than Valimaki.
When does Nesterov play himself off the roster to give Mackey a look-see?
Did Forbort want out of Calgary or did the Flames not want him?

Why do you do this?
I'm happy that you're looking at something other than +/- but the Stanley / Valimaki stuff is a little over the top isn't it? Two young players and it's eight games into a season.
I don't think either are going to win the calder for the record, but you may want a little more time into their careers before you start making projections but I'll bite.
Valimaki has had three poor games to start the season (last night one of them), Stanley only one by his log. The early returns seem to suggest a higher ceiling of impact for Valimaki if he can rough out the edges. All this ... with ... eight ... games of .... data.

Forbort's performance in the playoff was one of the worst I've ever seen. Probably the worst in at least 10 years for the Flames.
I'm pretty sure the Flames wanted to just try something else.

Yeah, if he played like that during the playoffs he would still be a Flame

Thought this game was very similar to most of the games this season ….very inconsistent.
Flames are definitely struggling to generate any offense what so ever....
They need to find a way to score more than 2 goals.

Forbort has learned, I can only assume that you get rewarded for your play
Poor play in one place (Calgary) leads to a poor next location (Winnipeg)
He is playing for his next destination. Has to play well to improve his lot in life.

Too bad Regina doesn’t have a team.

He is the top prospect on the Flames and basically only high end prospect that has a chance of replacing Gio. He would be one of the Flames most coveted assets and basically untradeable.
In your opinion nothing too important to look at here? The Flames can replace him with replacement level player like Nesterov?

What percent of rookies come in lights out in your opinion?

In my opinion it is far too early to be worried about him. If he plays great, that is excellent. If he does not, that is to be expected. It is only within an extremely binary view like yours in which contracts, on-ice usage, age, experience, and free agency status are all treated as irrelevant that this question about Nesterov would be even entertained. Here in the real world it looks ridiculous.

He's an important young player.
But he's young, and with that he's been inconsistent. I'd rather have a young player with peaks and valleys (THOUGH ONLY EIGHT GAMES) than a vanilla 5/6 dman that doesn't have the peaks.

I did not notice your rational posts on the "Valimaki in Finland" thread where they were numerous well supported opinions that Valimaki was going to be a beast and be a calder contender.
This was the 2nd most viewed individual player thread behind Markstrom signs thread.
You honestly didn't expect more from Valimaki?
Were you one of the few Flame fans that weren't disappointed that they wouldn't play him in the playoffs because of the expansion implications?
Also Stanley is just a shocking story. He was written off by most analysts that he wouldn't get a Tim Rambolt sniff of the NHL. If he got benched for the rest of the season he has exceeded expectations for 2021.
That he could be mentioned in a comparison with Valimaki over any 8 game stretch ever is wackadoodle

I'm not an extremes guy ... so yeah I was on the side of caution based on the league comparison between Liiga and the NHL.
The guy missed a year and a half of hockey at a young age, there was going to be an adjustment back to the level and the NHL grind. He's exactly what I expected to date ... makes some plays that make you think future 2/3 guy, and others that remind you he's played only 33 NHL games to date.
LOL ... Stanley is only being compared to Valimaki by you.
