At this point I kinda want to see him traded just so we can finally get an answer to “is it him or us.”

This is really not a big deal to me. Keep him for depth and playoffs this year and then let Seattle poach him. They are going to take someone regardless, seems to be the right move to me.

Is it more or less useless than the small sample-sizes of "confident Bennett" to which you keep drawing everyone's attention?
I don't agree at all with New Era, and I am really happy about what I have seen from Bennett over the past two games, but this strikes me as fairly hypocritical of you to be going on about small sample sizes with this player.

In order to expose him, he needs to be under contract, I believe.
Will he re-sign with the Flames? What does his next contract look like?
I don't think we can count on having Bennett here to expose - I think he will be traded because I don't think he will re-sign here.

I don't think so. He will be a RFA so we still retain his rights.

The extremes in this argument just make me shake my head.
The ever dwindling group that thinks Bennett will be fine if he's given better linemates are at least grounded in being a fan of the team and wanting a top draft pick to work out.
The sarcastic, angry torch mob that seems to take great excitement in hammering people with hope just blow me away though.
How did Sam Bennett get so personal for these people that they've actually switched allegiances when the topic comes up?

He still has to actually sign, and having an unhappy player is of little value.
Unless he has a breakout year, gets promoted to the top 6, and gets a nice juicy contract as a result, I am strongly of the opinion that this is his last season with the Flames.

Yeah i would expect that if Bennett stays for the season it is with the understanding that he will become UFA and walk for nothing.
I am certain he wont get a QO and knowing now he is wanting to go elsewhere for a better opportunity in his eyes, he wont be re-signing in Calgary.
Of course there is still time to change minds i suppose....depending if he gets dealt or not.
The Sam Bennett enigma just keeps growing.

The qualifying offer might be a bit rich, depending on how the year goes.

I miss the halcyon days of the first couple of pages of this thread, when the qualifying offer was so high that Bennett would be forced to play in the Swiss B League next year.

Who knows, maybe the public trade call will catapult the team into better usage, and Sam into more inspired playing and the result will be something at least in the middle of regular season Bennett and playoff Bennett.

Last expansion draft, Vegas selected Engelland.
His contract was expiring (10 days after the draft), to become a UFA.
I would think RFAs, will need to be protected
Or its a loop hole,

I vote for a moratorium on Bennett discussion until he actually produces enough to be somewhat relevant to the team's performance this year.
Until then we might as well start talking about Nordstrom's role on the team next year.

Last expansion draft happened before July 1, this one coming is after.
So all RFA's will have been at least QO'd or heading to arb., wjereas last time a guy like Engelland was still, technically, under contract and could be exposed.
Everyone else will be UFA if im not mistaken so cant be subject to being picked.
I believe this is how its going to happen...could be wrong.

I bet a Pube sandwich that he finishes the season on the Monahan line RW and has 40pts. Then re-signs with the team for 4 years

Quoted so you can't edit. Any takers on this bet?

I am confident that he doesn't get 40 points, but 1) I WANT him to, and 2) I ain't betting a pube sandwich for any odds.

Is this bet that Sam Bennett will get 39 more points in the remaining 44 games of this season?
I just want to be sure. Because if that is indeed the bet, I will take it. I hope I am eating a pube sandwich because I think we will be happy as #### if I am, but there is virtually no chance of this occurring. Chucky might barely get 40 this season.

We ALL want Bennett to get 40 points. God, we would have an amazing player on our hands if he could produce like that. He would be a solid second line player. But we have to be realistic about that possibility and what his production really looks like. We're now talking about whether he will be available to the team for the expansion draft or be an outright UFA. That's an indication where he's headed and should greatly temper expectations. We should be prepping for the departure of the guy, not dreaming up ways to give him more opportunities that he never takes advantage of.

So would we agree he won’t produce 2nd line numbers playing 3rd and 4th line minutes?
