Unless you are Monahan, this is a bit of a hair challenged team. Hanifin has pretty good flow, but Gio, Bennett...
All those handsome Swedes have nice thick hair too.
As someone who is follicly challenged, I'm insanely jealous

All the coach has to do to please some of you is "something" as opposed to nothing. I would rather have a leader on the bench than a buddy. Enough of these peewee bargin bin coaches and the GM as well cause he cant/wont get that done.

CP "JG sucks at breakaways and always goes 5 hole"
Also CP "how dare you put him 4th in the SO"
Leivo has better SO numbers than Gaudreau, its really not a crazy decision. Gaudreau probably earned a top 3 for next time though
Very much a similar move to the one in Ottawa 6 years (that long ago?) ago, where he's still stickhandling inside the goalie's leg almost. And the leg kick.

I really don't want to play against this team full of complete dumbasses who injure other teams' players like there is no tomorrow.
Quote:
This will be an exciting mini-series, hope that we manage to escape these games uninjured.

Just as long as the Jets escape without significant injury to any major players a rumble series will be very entertaining.

Scary stretch of games here... hoping for the best

For me it's literally from a 'Hope Chucky doesn't injure our guys like a reckless dumbass in this next 3 games' perspective... confident we will do well as a team.

If Jets are healthy, then they take Calgary’s spot in the playoffs.
I wouldnt be surprised if Calgary tries to injure our star players.
Lowry or Bo are gonna have to put someone in their place.

This Calgary stretch better not physically destroy our team and they better play clean.

I saw Keanu in Hamlet for a dress rehearsal.
After the show, I made my way to take a leak, then out a side door and ran in Keanu outside. We started casually chatting about music as I asked him what was up with his Dogstar project as I also play.
We probably talked for 5 minutes, in that time we were surrounded by probably 20 girls wearing almost nothing and it was around -30.
He looked at the girls and said, "Why aren't you girls wearing proper winter clothing, it's like -30. We're dressed properly for the weather, this is Canada." (Paraphrasing) and gave a head shake.
To note, he was decked out in like a red Arctic goose down parka, and I was rocking a thick green mil surplus winter parka.
He didn't skip a beat and went on chatting music with me.
If looks could kill, I'd be dead by groupie death glare a million times over.
With that, we need groupie death glare level of hate for those Bic Lighters we are playing tonight.
C'mon boys, time to destroy!

Straight up Keanu seems like a pretty great guy for a successful Hollywood star. When I was digging around for stuff I read that he gave 80 million of his 114 million for the two Matrix sequels to the crew (special-effects & costume-design team). That's kind of crazy.
Plus he turned down 11 million for the Speed 2 sequel and instead toured with his band and did Hamlet in Winnipeg. Cap that off with being spotted giving up his seat on public transit to an elderly lady and the guy is a frigg'n saint.

Keanu made quite a number of friends in Winnipeg during the mid 90's.
He was a regular at the old Shark Club / Liberty Grill & befriended many of the staff & their regulars while staying at the Fairmount across the street. He's been back in the city a few times & still interacts with them.

Not entirely sure the Flames deserved two points there, but I’ll take it.
Need to seriously tighten up in their own zone and learn how to get the puck out. Would help to hit the net on their shots too.
Tomorrow should be interesting.
You're not wrong on the missed shots and zone clear fails. Definitely some room for improvement. That said, the Flames absolutely deserved the win. They were the much better team.
The Following User Says Thank You to Yrebmi For This Useful Post:
Honestly, the Flames were good 5 on 5 in the first. PK just let them down. Pretty good effort overall from start to finish.
It must be incredibly demoralizing in games like tonight's and the first Montreal game for the team to be suddenly and inexplicably shorthanded after playing solid 5 on 5 hockey. It's maybe after unsurprising that the Flames have dropped those first periods like that.

Much better game overall (and more exciting to watch!) than the last couple of outings. You can tell that the Flames are a bit tentative out there at times still, and I don't think they are really up to game speed yet (at least a handful of players aren't yet), but much better overall.
Lots of complaining about Backlund, but I thought he was good. The only thing he did tonight that wasn't so good was miss the net on a few shots, but otherwise I thought he looked good, and it seems he is getting better every game. Hellebuyck is a pretty good goalie positionally usually, so I assume that Backlund was trying to pick a corner.
As Cali has mentioned earlier, Monahan is deserving of a tonne of praise. He is playing as a very solid 1st line centre at both ends of the ice. Gaudreau as well seems committed to defence, and I really think that it helps to get buy-in from the rest of the team when they see those two hustling back and breaking-up plays. It not only helps the Flames more when they are on the ice, but there is the trickle-down effect of forcing everyone to put in that effort.
I thought Bennett was great, as was Mangiapane. Tkachuk and Lindholm had their moments too. The Hanifin - Tanev pairing is just rock-solid out there. You have to give credit to Tanev, but everyone has forgotten already how Hanifin - Hamonic were really solid to start when they were first put together under Peters, and the talk was how the Flames had "2 first pairing pairings". Hamonic somehow regressed, and that pairing often became disastrous (especially in the playoffs later that season). I don't think Tanev is going to be that - he is much calmer with the puck, and just seems to have much more awareness around him than Hamonic did. I also think that Hanifin is maturing and MUCH better defensively now too. I would bet that this pairing continues to be the nearly flawless minute-munchers that this team needs since Giordano-Brodie stopped being the league's most dominant pairing.
Markstrom was everything you could ask for tonight.
One quibble - I think it should be a rule that you start Gaudreau-Monahan-Giordano in OT. I am assuming it was Ward trying to line-match, but Monahan and Gaudreau were playing so well all night, it doesn't matter who else is out there.
Tomorrow night's game will be interesting. I thought it was already a fairly full-effort game from both sides, but tomorrow should be a bit more emotional too as these teams are building up more of a rivalry.
