You are kidding right? The way Jets were being dominated in the third, Jets were lucky to get a point.

Yeah because his first stupid penalty had nothing to do with the coaches decision.

Actually, he was benched for a shift before that, then was demoted to the fourth line. Then he took the bs penalty. But he was rightly demoted, penalties or not, he was bad.

Great game to watch. Johnny looking like a leader right now.

Damn good team win but i cant seem to forget how very pedestrian Backlund has looked this year so far. That and he cant hit the net now to save his life. Leivo also has this problem. Alot.

Great game. Flames go down 2-0 and don’t wilt. Jets were lucky to come out with one point.

Well he was still playing after the first penalty obviously so the coach didn't bench him until the 2nd one that wasn't a penalty

Nice contributions to the game thread tonight though

You could argue that the 5000-foot goal sparked life into the Flames. Maybe it's a different game if that one doesn't go in?

Nevertheless, full marks on the 3rd period effort and the win.

We said the exact same thing about him last year, then he exploded in the back half and became our best player down the stretch.

I think Backs is at the age now where he needs some games to get going.

Gaudreau is hands down our best player. Our offence goes as he goes. Just as impressive has been his defensive play. Watching him play like this has me very excited for this season.

Also, I hate the officiating so far this season... even more than I usually do.

I just pulled the highlights from the 2-0 game in MTL and the French feed had replays of the Flames penalties, since SNET didn't bother to show most of them.

Both of Backlund's penalties in that game were bad calls. He didn't contact Edmundson's helmet with his stick, but the cartoonish headsnap sold it. And Gallagher launched himself backwards to draw the 2nd.

Likewise, tonight the trip on Hanifin to start the game was a soft call so early in the game to set a bad precedence IMO. The trip on Gio was also soft as it looked like his stick only contacted Lewis' heel, but ok. But they don't call it when Mangiapane spun around the Jet inside the blueline and was about to walk down the slot with the puck before he was tripped. That's an easy call to make given the 2 previous tripping penalties.

And Dube's holding penalty was baffling.

Since Backlund avoids contact and skates around giving the puck away and generally lethargic (cringed when he was in the ice for OT and the man he was supposed to cover almost scored) he's clearly off Ward's radar, as he should've been benched long before Dube who is out there battling.

Is it 100% he got benched for that? Or did he hurt his groin going down? Or maybe it was because he let the guy get behind him? I didn’t focus on him but I didn’t think he was bad in the game.
