Pro-Bennett camp vehemently calls to put Bennet in top 6 while others say he is what he is, just show us the money and earn your spot. Mangiappane earned his spot in the top 6. So did Dube. Why is Bennett so special - just because he's the highest drafted Flames ever?

Because Dube is better.
ETA, but Monahan and Gaudreau skated well with Simon, whether because of him or in spite of him. Better than with leivo.

There's the rub: teams *may* view some untapped potential, but unlikely to pay fair market value for it. It's an almost lose-lose situation for the Flames.
Which is why people are so mad about it. All in all, things just couldn't have turned out worse for the Flames and SB.

Can't really blame him either.
I like Sam, he seems like a great guy and is always a pro. But he is not going to be missed on the ice.

This is a good well thought out rational post, unlike some who tend to over exaggerate to make a point.

He's clearly been disappointing, but people are acting like he went all Tony DeAngelo and fought a teammate.
He wants a bigger opportunity, especially given that it's a contract year and he had yet another strong playoffs. He even subbed in for Tkachuk and put up some goals on the 1st PP unit in his spot. He was then put back on the 4th line to start the year, largely because he wanted to play C and Lindholm was also moved to C pushing Bennett down further.
I don't think he is a top 6 forward unfortunately, but I completely get why he would want a better opportunity given his contract status.
I just don't get the outright vehemence some clearly have for him.

Bennett hasnt scored a PP goal in 2 seasons i believe.

Could've traded him for Crosby, Malkin, and McJesus after that game! But held on too long!

I don’t think Bennett gets hardly any hostility. He gets less than Will Nault, that’s for sure.
Lots of opposing viewpoints but almost nothing I’d describe as hostility.

In the playoffs, after Tkachuk was injured. He had 2 PPGs and 2 PPAs.

maybe i missed the hate posts...
mainly what I see are posters taking umbrage at other poster's assessment of Bennett and then trying to change each others minds time and time again with little success...
After 5 years in a Flames uniform, people have each come to their own conclusion of what Bennett is or what he isn't... Fairly or unfairly, I don't think there's ever going to be a consensus, unless he flips the switch on a consistent basis, here or somewhere else.

That is untrue. There is one thread where a few people rip on Nault. Bennett is featured in literally every thread.
Bennett at least has some professional strong points... Nault just sucks at his job.

Bennett made his intentions known when he said he picked his jersey number because of Doug Gilmour, and went with 93 instead of 39

You know he grew up in Ontario, right?
Gilmour is known there as having worn 93, which he wore in Chicago and still identifies as his number (DG93)

Woosh.
1. Doug Gilmour was looking to get out of Calgary the moment the puck dropped on the 1991-92 season.
