Salim Nadim Valji @salimvalji
On Sam Bennett and him being unhappy w/ role, Calgary Flames head coach Geoff Ward said that at the beginning of this season, he gave Sam the choice of where he played…centre or wing.
Sam chose centre. After a couple of games, Sam said he wanted to switch back to the wing.

Bennett, who was already in the lineup but being deployed on the third or fourth line, is a story to keep an eye on. If he truly wants out, you can bet the situation will likely get worse before it gets better.

Of course he asked to go back to wing.
3rd line winger is a better role than 4th line center.
He doesn’t want to be stuck on the 4th line.
I don’t know why this would be news to anyone.

Treliving has said that other GMs have made inquiries on Bennett.

Yeah because as a center he played with Lucic and Nordstrom while seeing guys like Simon or Leivo get top 6 minutes.
Shocking he decided he wanted to move back to wing.

Right ... but that's a far cry from stating 30 NHL GMs don't have interest in him as fact isn't it?

His line mates would Lucic and Nordstrom, worse line mates than any other combo he’s had.
I would be picking wing too just to avoid playing 4C with them.

Obviously I don't know much here but I wonder if Friedman wants to become that guy...?
I enjoy his analysis and insight but if he wants to go looking for dirt as the TMZ of the league I guess its up to him as to how he manages his career.

This would be a great deal for the Flames.

If Bennett is the rental, its a waste of an asset. Unless there is another up and comer in the Flames' system that is going to carry the mail and let Bennett's crease crashing payoff again, a la Dillion Dube, I don't see another occurrence of Sam "Electric" Bennett.

I would roll the dice that playoff Bennett shows up rather than trade him away for a diminished return, yes.
Better than throwing a bunch of assets at a guy like Edmonton did with Athanasiou. I know that isn’t what you suggest doing, but with Bennett its better keeping the devil you know than overpaying for the devil you don’t know.
The “now you’ve lost everything” statement in your post makes little sense to me, since you are talking about a diminished return anyways.
My opinion. We can agree to disagree.

The Flames have Lindholm, Monahan, and Backlund at center. When he chose to play center, which player did he think he'd outplay to avoid playing on the fourth line? Was he hoping Lindholm would play the wing so he'd get third line minutes by default?

Anaheim has always had interest in Bennett and I could see them being a fit...think they need to move a d-man for expansion protection reasons too and Manson was rumored to be available at one point this offseason.
Bennett + 2nd for Manson
or
Bennett + 2nd for Rakell
Feel like something like that could be beneficial for both teams.
