I find myself using the app for highlights.

The women on TSN SportsCentre are so incredibly annoying.

With the full game highlights being posted directly from the league onto YouTube, and other relevant highlights and news through other social media platforms/website, I don't even watch TSN's or Sportsnet's highlight and news shows anymore. I can get my info from other sources now that are more direct and instant.

If you look at the laws in Canada it's not actually illegal to WATCH the stream on some of those "illegal" streaming sites.

It is, however, illegal for a Canadian to be the one hosting the stream.

So depending on the country these "illegal" sites are operating in, they might not be breaking any laws at all.

I'm in Vancouver and get all the Calgary games either through NHL Live or Sportsnet on TV. It works great for my needs as I also set it up for my Dad to watch on the Roku and he'd never get to watch all their games otherwise, and for me personally, I'm usually traveling, so it's perfect. Still remember watching some of the finals a few years ago with friends in Korea while on vacation.

Yes, the point is you need both.

A lot of us don’t have both, I don’t have cable. So I pay $170 a year to watch the NHL, and due to my location that means I am blacked out of most Leaf games, which includes times they play the flames (unless it’s national Weds/Sat). It’s a pain in the ass. If I was a leaf fan who didn’t want cable then this service would be completely worthless.

It’s ridiculous that I am blacked out of 2 flames leaf games typically, and like 6 this season...

“Yeah yeah but you can just pay ANOTHER $20 a month for sports net”. No, this is dumb.

For Cable Cutters and wanting to avoid the issue of regional blackouts and give you the most flexibility I assume the best option is:

"SN NOW+ Annual $249.99 + tax (save 25% on a subscription by committing for the year)—

Now includes access to NHL LIVE!

Over *1000 total NHL games. Stream the Oilers, Flames, Canucks and Leafs. Plus, get Hockey Night in Canada, Rogers Hometown Hockey, Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey, the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs, Raptors & NBA matchups, Blue Jays & MLB, Grand Slam of Curling, CHL and Sportsnet original shows.

Subscribers will also get hundreds of Bundesliga, FA Cup, Super League Rugby, National Rugby League and Gallagher Premiership matchups, over 100 additional NBA matchups"

Yup, I have a place in Radium and it’s frustrating. I think even the locals like Calgary (or some Oilers).

“You spoke, we listened. Now introducing, mega cable packages!!!! I mean.... streaming packages! It’s different this time, nothing like cable packages. We know everyone ditched cable because they were tired of paying for a bunch of additional content they didn’t want...... so check out our new mega package!”

How do you do that with the Leafs? Why are they different than other teams?

I don't think Leafs Nation Network even show live Leafs games anymore. I thought that stopped a while back.

I have Bell satellite (live in country) and only so I can subscribe to the sportsnet package. So basically I get every Flames game and every Oilers game. Can’t really rely on streaming as internet can be touch and go. If I was to lose connection during the Flames game it wouldn’t be pretty.
If there was a package that offered every game including local I would be all over getting it?

Otherwise it’s Netflix or Amazon the rest of the time.

There are ways to watch the games online, I can't believe everyone doesn't know this.

Never had cable, never missed a game thanks to "Complimentary Streams." Simple stuff.

Again, living in the country with subpar internet, no fibre optics and some nights unable to even watch Netflix...I’m open to suggestions?

Honestly, maybe there’s something I’m unaware of?

I’m not even sure what some people aren’t understanding.

People are ready and willing to pay for the product.

They are aware they can get it for free “illegally,” but would rather go the legit route and pay for it.

Every paid/official option has numerous drawbacks that make it significantly worse than illegal streams.

This is annoying, if not embarrassing for the NHL and it’s broadcast partners.

It’s 2021, not 2011. The absence of a blackout free, high quality streaming option from the NHL or its broadcast partners is ridiculous. The most popular sport in Canada, and it’s online accessibility basically only tops F1. You can literally watch every game from whatever team in whatever major league you want... but not if it’s hockey. It’s insane.

It's utterly ridiculous that I, as a Flames fan in BC, have access to more Flames games than fans in the home market. I'm lucky that it's usually only the regional network mid-week games against the Canucks that are blacked out - unfortunately, there are five of those this year.
