No doubt this will pose a problem in the post season. IMO I like the players we have on defence, but I miss the grit that Engelland brought.
We can’t afford to be any softer than we are now. Playoff Bennett leaving this team will hurt in the post season.

Because Leivo and Simon have looked and deserved their long stints on the top line this season...
If I'm Bennett I want out too, just awful.
GL Sam, he'll do better some where else.

He can rot on the bench for all I care.
He must have rocks for brains if he thinks this is a good time to ask for a trade. His trade value is low and teams are not going to offer the Flames good value in a trade. Nor are the Flames going to give him away.
Bring up someone who wants to play for this team.

He doesn’t care about value. He wants an opportunity, something this team has never given him. Sometimes players and organizations just don’t jive.
Some teams bank on players that vanish in the playoffs and play without emotion, over and over and over.

I would rather get rid of Ward and keep Bennett but of course that’s not going to happen.

There are plenty of narratives people have built that are based on events much less frequent in reality than in their heads, because of all the pissing and moaning they choose to do
|
So your “not sure why I’m dignifying this with a response” is to prove his point correct that Sam did take an O zone penalty this year?
So you are proving the narrative you are claiming is made up?
Got a breakdown of the last two seasons that further “disproves” any more narratives?

I think that’s the thing... he wants to play for the team
Gifting Leivo (a bubble NHler) and Simon time with top linemates while starting Sam on the 4th line, especially after he showed very well with Dube and Looch in the playoffs .. it’s a #### message from the team
The concept that he asks for an expanded role is not unreasonable as it is merit based. And if the team can’t offer a guy who delivers when it matters some regular season opportunity for, say, something like the same linemates they give him in the playoffs, why is it unreasonable to express that you are open to a change of scene?
The guy wants to play, not sit.
No shame on him for his agent doing what it takes to negotiate an improved playing and career situation. This is a key time in his career, and what happens has millions of dollars of career earnings at stake

I responded partly because I thought it was funny.
If I can remember and describe every penalty a player has taken in a season 7 games in, there clearly is not a problem with too many penalties
Backlund tonight alone took more bad penalties than Bennett has all season
So I don’t know what you think I’m proving

You know what’s a #### message? Gifting a player who isn’t very good top line minutes because he’s a high draft pick and finally bothered to play well once during the playoffs after like 300 regular season games where he was average at best.
Maybe if he showed up once and a while in the regular season, they’d trust him more.
And can we please stop with the “playoff miracle worker” narrative? Claude Lemieux he ain’t.

He is asking for a trade but isn’t demanding it right away.
It’s not like PLD/Laine at all.

I can understand that he wants a change but to say Bennet and the team don't jive, i don't get it. He jives in the playoffs but not the regular season. Tis a mystery to me.

Lol. Come on, man.
Two things -
1. not saying to give him top line minutes. Your words, not mine.
But Leivo is a career bubble guy who just finally stuck with a rebuilding team. He was gifted 13 and 23. Fight me haha
2. You win as a team in the playoffs. You need guys like 19, 13 and 23 to do what’s expected and then guys like 93 stepping up make a difference. No, his improved playoff play can’t make up for so many other guys ####ting the bed.
Claude Lemieux wasn’t successful with his top players disappearing and you know that

It pains me, because he’s my favourite (not very good) player. I have to think that Bennett felt his playoff play earned him a bigger opportunity this season - and then he starts the year centering Lucic and Nordstrom, followed by just getting tossed around the lineup without a role yet again while he saw Simon and Leivo get more opportunity than him.
I totally understand it from Bennett’s perspective, and I really don’t know what this team’s end game is. Ever since the hiring of Ward, I’ve had a pit in my stomach and this has just made it grow, alongside the slow/typical emotionless Flames hockey.
This team gifted Simon and Leivo roles that Bennett earned. That has to be hard to swallow.

Well, he's no Dom Simon. As soon as I saw that Dom Simon was on board, I thought "Holy Dom Simon". If there's one player not named Leivo who deserves to be non-gifted top line minutes, it's that guy who made Crosby look good.

I don't really like the Flames forward lines much without Bennett, so I have to believe they won't trade him unless they can get a right handed RW in return with equal upside?
Bennett really feels like a guy that many teams will be interested in trying to buy low on. Bennett seems in some ways that he's one adjustment away from bringing it all together, and other teams see that to. I think a lot of teams would be interested because there is still a real chance that Bennett can at the very least become a valuable player in a teams top six with playoff upside. I can see some intriguing offers being made and a bit of a bidding war driving value up.

Virtanen for Bennett makes a lot of sense.
Don’t like trading within the division (especially with Vancouver or Edmonton), but I have a hunch that Virtanen would be a .5 PPG player here. Seems like a decent fit with Monahan and Gaudreau.
