I do take your point, too. Maybe the thing to do is stick Sam Bennett in a barrel and feed him through the bunghole for the rest of the regular season. Then, when the playoffs start, you pop Bennett out of the barrel and put him on Monahan's line, and put Gaudreau in the barrel instead.
In the meantime, Gaudreau is having a great start to the regular season.
Mostly.
I seem to recall that Gaudreau was on the ice when the Flames gave up the truly awful shorthanded 3-on-1. That power play was a goat rope, but that particular rush was the turd in the punchbowl.
If he wasn't on the ice at that time, then I will happily edit out the word ‘mostly’.

I get that you want more out of Johnny at crunch time; we all do, but at this moment he's as-advertised Johnny Hockey.
He's a Flame for 2 more seasons, let's hope they can augment what they have, and go on a run.
I will believe they can until they don't.
As an aside, I thought Mangiapane looked good with JG and SM.

Looks like some fancy stats support the claim of Bonded that they were indeed bad tonight.

They had a brutal night of hockey 5v5, but that's likely just a blip considering they've been insanely dominant the entire season so far.
Just like there's positives sometimes to take from losses (the Flames played way better and deserved much better than their 0 points in 3 games would suggest), there's also negatives sometimes to take from wins, like tonight.
Great that they got the 2 points, but playing the type of hockey they played tonight won't get them 2 points often.

Simply put, no. Really, the idea of a world without Shea Weber doesn't even make sense. Think about it... what else would fill the slap shot taking void? Who else provides such versatile flavor? Shea Weber has always been the most beautiful thing on this entire planet. Shea Weber will always be the most tasty thing in the universe.
Sure, Shea Weber alone is questionably tasty. But Shea Weber doesn't work alone, Shea Weber amplifies other lesser Defencemen. Even those who claim they don't like Shea Weber are just fooling themselves. Remember Jeff Petry? Well, pretty much everything Jeff Petry did is contaminated with Shea Weber, and Shea Weber has brought their defensive greatness.
Claude Julien thinks he can make Canadiens great again. No, he alone cannot. But Shea Weber can. We should not build a wall. We should build a goddamn Shea Weber waterfall. Niagara Falls? How about Shea Weber Falls? This is the only way to make Shea Weber great again, scientifically proven in exactly 0 controlled trials, in eπi +1 peer reviewed journals. Why would this make the Canadiens great again? Imagine if you could take any boring Defensive plays and slather it in Shea Wbeer just by putting it outside. That's right, we're going to make Shea Weber rain.
The whole world would be spiced up a notch. Bland D corps would be watchable again. Decent D corps would be mindblowing. Productivity would skyrocket a whopping 10,000% with all the newfound enthusiasm for life. South Korea and North Korea would be friends again. Israelis and Palestinians would stop killing each other. Instead, they would all revel in their love of Shea Weber. Long story short, Shea Weber not only binds this world together, but is the solution for all of this world's problems.
Take more slap shots, my friend.

Lmao calm down there buddy.
I've said in all my posts I'm happy the Flames got the two points, but in reality they're not going to win many games playing the way they did tonight.
We're just different types of fans, you and I. That's completely fine, as there's many different types of fans with no type being more right/wrong than the other. You might like to just simply look at wins and losses and be happy/mad based solely on that (which is completely fine, I'm not trying to insult you) and I just like to also look behind the results and see whether the results were deserved and/or sustainable moving forward.
I'm happy with the win and am enjoying it as much as you, but I also like to look ahead.
Dube neither left his feet nor hit in the head. That is all.
Not to mention Kotkaniemi instantly turned outta nowhere, which Dube definitely wasn't expecting.
I do think there was head contact and a little bit of a jump, but if anything it 100% was more of a reactionary play rather than Dube actually going for a hit.

The only jump was Dube straightening up from a skating position, and his forearms hit chest and he pushed out. At most they grazed the chin.
I agree, Dube wasn’t looking for it.

wasn't saying anything about you...those scoring chances are wrong though so don't use them to prove a point
Dube neither left his feet nor hit in the head. That is all.
Craig Button on TSN saying he should get two games because the principal point of contact was his head.
Only it wasn’t. You can see his head snap back after his chest has already started going backwards (as Dube extends through the hit). Great analysis Craig.
Edit: watched it a few more times and it looks like there may have been some contact between the chin area and Dube’s shoulder, but the main point of contact is still the chest. Also, if the main point of contact was his head, he wouldn’t have gotten up from that kind of impact.
