Best of luck to Sam and I’m sure he will actually flourish on a new team where he’s given top 6 opportunities.
And before everyone gleefully waves him out of town, be careful what you wish for because this team is already charmin soft, and I can’t wait for the takes about how “flames don’t go to the dirty areas”
Either way I’m gonna have to find a new avatar.

On which team is Sam Bennett top 6?

I'll take the standard DeBrusk return.
Has to happen by midnight EST to make sense.

Colin White would be an interesting option as a trade.

I'd also like to add, that if the Flames deal Bennett, they'll never get his true playoff value of a 2nd rounder. I'm guessing you'd get a third for him. I'd much rather deal him in a package. Backlund and him for a 1st and 4th?

If you're making a deal for him you're going to have to swallow the qualifier, and because you have swallowed that qualifier use a protection slot for Bennett. That is a sizable investment for a player whose production hit an all time low last season and has been trending in the wrong direction. The best thing the Flames can hope for is a swap of problem children. Jake Virtanen is the perfect fit?

So you are saying you have a negative value asset. And instead of just waiving the negative value, you would want to trade it for something else of negative value? Or am I reading that wrong?
I really don’t think Bennett has negative value with his cap hit. Don’t get me wrong, I wish his cap hit was 1.75. But it isn’t.
I think if we keep him, and expose him to Seattle they probably take him.
That would be better asset management than trading him for nothing, since we will be losing something to Seattle no matter what.

I don’t think either example is a really good argument in Sam’s favour.

He was more noticeable tonight, and I did see him get some PK time. That’s good. Hopefully he continues to play hard; if he starts floating out there he won’t be doing himself any favours. I think that’s unlikely though.

Bottom line Sam has to play a certain way to be successful. People will often overlook shortcomings if the player puts in the effort. Sam needs to be more engaged.
Obviously he was not the only one lately with lack effort.

Players earn their time through their efforts on the ice during the game, on the ice during practices, and off the ice in their approach to the game. Based on the same treatment of Bennett extending across multiple coaches I think it is safe to say that maybe Bennett doesn't apply himself and the coaches reward him with what they see. If the new players come in and are working their asses off in practice and off the ice, while Bennett is not, that may be why they are promoted and Sam is left wanting.
Think about it. Come to camp and look like crap, expecting to get a slot gifted to you because of a very small sample size from months ago, how does that play with the coaches?
Did you say the same thing when Baertschi got his agent involved as well?

People say stuff like this about player values all the time, but I don't buy it. Josh Anderson was traded for a small fortune after scoring only one goal in an injury plagued season.
I doubt very much that Bennett's value has fluctuated at all over the course of the past two years. NHL GMs aren't dumb; they can see what kind of a player he is.

Just because he can’t crack the flames top six doesn’t mean another team wouldn’t put him in a position to play more minutes.
Sam was always logjammed by Johnny and Thachuk on LW,
He isn’t a good enough C to supplant Mony or Backs and he just kinda sucks on the Right.
In reality he is our 7th best forward (especially this season so far).
I know I would hate having Brady thachuk and Bennett bearing down on our D night in night out

Yes they can, they see a player that had a career year in his rookie year and has been downhill since...5 yrs and counting.
That said, I hope they dont give him away. He has some use.

But carry on, you’ve got support from other likeminded people who don’t care to bring facts and stats in to the conversation

Bennett and discipline shouldn't be used in the same sentence. You think Bennett taking stupid penalties in the offensive zone is group think? Where have you been?
Where did he take his two penalties this year stats guy?

Do you really think Bennett is better than Tim Stutzle? If Bennett is a top 6 LW on the Sens it won’t be for long. And I really don’t think he can play top 2 C night in and out.

I saw a Sens fan on Twitter propose Colin White for Bennett, which would be fine from a player perspective but is a big no-go, contracts-wise.
White makes $4.75m for five more years.

Not sure why I am dignifying this with a response. Bored, I guess.
One in the o zone. One in the neutral zone. Killed the team. They won 3-0.
There are plenty of narratives people have built that are based on events much less frequent in reality than in their heads, because of all the pissing and moaning they choose to do
